The final round of this season’s HSBC Sevens World Series took place in London. The London leg of the series took place during Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 of May.
Before this tournament New Zealand topped the World Series table and were hot favourites to add yet another trophy to their sevens cabinet, which they comfortably did by winning this leg of the HSBS Sevens World Series in Londom too.
Prior to the tournament they were already 19 points ahead of their nearest rivals, South Africa, on the overall standings table.
New Zealand, South Africa and Fiji notched up big wins in their first games on Day 1 against Argentina, Portugal and Spain respectively. South Africa then remained unbeaten through Day 1 while Fiji lost one game, to Australia and New Zealand also lost one game, being narrowly defeated in the final game of Day 1 by England. All three these teams competed in the quarter finals of the Cup section on Day 2 where they were joined by England, Australia, Samoa, Kenya and France.
The BlitzBokke’s ‘reward’ for topping their pool is a Cup quarter final against New Zealand, but New Zealand comfortably dispatched the Blitzbokke by 32 / 5 in their quarter final.

Another big win for BlitzBokke, final score – South Africa 47/7 France
Two tries already in the first four minutes for New Zealand, New Zealand 14/0 Wales
Halftime NZ 28/0 Wales
After two sets of games played the following teams top their pools: New Zealand, Samoa, Fiji and South Africa.
Difficult Cup Quarter for the Blitzbokke vs New Zealand on Day 2
Very few spectators at the London Sevens today.

Hi GBS that is surprising seeing as England did well yesterday, but it is still early in the day there and still half an hour before England play their QF and given its one they should win that gives the locals time to get down and catch them later as well. Twickenham is also a huge stadium for any event let alone a 7s tournament so maybe the crowd numbers will look smaller than they are.
Two bowl quarter final results so far today: Argentina 31/0 Portugal, Spain 26/7 United States
19 all after full time in the Scotland/Wales bowl quartefinal
Scotland scored a late try to draw even but Colin Gregor failed to convert it so the game needs extra time
Wales beat Scotland in extra time, 24 / 19
Pity Scotland knocked out by Wales, have gone from playing in the 3rd place play off last week to having to settle for competing for the Shield this week.
Bowl QF: Canada 21/19 Japan – result
Result – England 19/17 France
There was a record ‘sell-out’ crowd of 75 000 people at the 7s yesterday! Twickeham’s capacity is 82 000. All the final round of English Premiership games are on at same time today with two games in London, wonder if this is a factor as well on attendance today.
Not long until the BIG game between New Zealand and South Africa
Blitzbokke / New Zealand ON!
Result – Australia 12/5 Kenya
NZ Score first, Stowers
NZ 7 / 0 Blitzbokke
GO Blitzbokke!
Mickleson scores for NZ
NZ 12 / 0 Blitzbokke
Oh dear
Another NZ try, Curry
Halftime: NZ 17 / 0 Blitzbokke
2nd Half ON!
If they haven’t already sown up the title then victory over SA here should surely guarantee New Zealand win it.
Branco du Preez drags one back
NZ 17 / 5 Blitzbokke
Of all the second placed teams to get just tough luck we got New Zealand, could have been Kenya, France or Fiji – would have been confident of beating any of those 3. Thanks England 🙁
26 @ Bullscot:
They’ve sown it up already with their Quarter place
29 @ grootblousmile:
Ok thanks for clearing that one up GBS. Well done New Zealand!
