The Glasgow leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series took place this weekend.
Super Rugby’s broadcast times largely clashed on Saturday with these games, therefore we looked at the results already done and dusted and we followed the rest of the games as they progressed.
The Fixtures and Results were updated from time to time here on Rugby-Talk.
New Zealand takes the Cup, beating Canada in the final by 54 / 7 and now have an unassailable lead of 19 points in the season, effectively already winning the overall title for the season, with one leg to go in the season.

Come on Blitzbokkies. Really can’t lose to Scotland here.
Handling skills letting us down here. We could lose to Scotland here.
Again we mess it up.
Try Riddell, Scotland
Scotland 12 SA 7
Scotland 12 / 7 SA
Think this ref is blowing unfair at times here.
Again we getting nothing from this ref.
We had better score here or we out the cup.
Scotland win and we out.
We lost to Scotland?
No disrespect too them, but surely we should beat them?
On another note. Marcell Coetzee is out the Sharks tour. Heading back home and Botes on his way to Australia.
Think our tour just got a whole lot harder as Marcell was our best player. He might be back for the Stormers game back home. Now keeping fingers crossed we don’t lose Deysel as he has also been outstanding for Sharks.
40 @ nortierd:
We should have beaten them. Then we done some stupid stuff also ref seemed at times to blow more for the Scots.
Anyhow I don’t take this format that serious as it is more like 20/20 cricket. Anyone can win on the day.
@ Puma:
Hi Puma.. how are you doing.
I do not fully agree with you re the T20 cricket… the Proteas NEVER win when it matters..like during world cup finals… so your statement that anyone can win on the day is not fully correct 🙂
Well done to the Sharks… about time a SA team win overseas.
@Puma 42
Not sure I agree, even in 7’s the stronger teams usually prevails.
Upsets are not so frequent.
But I’m not sure our 7 side is that strong, didn’t see the game, but disappointed with the result, especially considering that we are chasing the nr 1 spot.
Looks like another year NZ will dominate and win again. Even if they don’t win every tournament, they are consistent and end in the top 4 of most tournaments.
@43
@ nortierd:
Yes.. the kiwi’s are moving futher ahead of us. Yesterday they beat us fairly easily without even using a few of their best players.
I wonder if top players will be made available for the 7’s Olympic team ..mind you, 7’s are so specialised and it requires a much more atletic type of player, i am not sure if we have many players with super rugby contracts who will make the team.
Take the current Stormer team for example…. only Kolbe will walk into the current 7’s team… someone like Damian might perhaps make it as a forward.
@Rob
I’m sure a class player will be good in all forms.
Remember when guys like Joost, Bobby, Campo, Lomu, Cullen etc excelled in both forms.
Imagine a Folau in 7’s ,I think he will be devastating
@ nortierd:
The names you mentioned were exceptional players ( Bobby for one year only) … not many of them around at the moment
SB Williams will also be devastating at 7’s.
Cullen ( the real one) was a freak… no back who is playing at the moment can be compared to him imo..
If we win in Scotland do we take the title.That would be nice.
48 @ NZINCHINA:
Hi there NZINCHINA, well you are just one win away from winning in Glasgow, and that game will be against Canada or Scotland who are playing now in the semi final.
New Zealand beat Fiji in the first cup semi final – 19/14
Japan play Wales in the final of the shield
Argentina play France in the bowl final and England play Kenya in the plate final after Kenya beat the Blitz Bokke 14/7 in the plate semi-final and England beat Australia 7/21.
WP Nel scored another try for Edinburgh yesterday (his 6th of the season) but they were over powered by Munster in the end (for the 2nd time this season) with Munster scoring 7 tries to Edinburgh’s 2, Carl Bezuidenhout also scored a try for Edinburgh. Final score: Edinburgh 12/55 Munster.
Latest score can find in the 7s cup semi-final – Scotland 0/7 Canada, come on Scotland.
@ Bullscot:
Cheers, Canada or Scotland that’s a surprise.
6 min into 2nd half – Scotland 0/10 Canada – penalty to Canada, oh dear
Canada won. Scotland 7/10 Canada.
Scott Riddell got a try in the 9th min of 2nd half which Colin Gregor converted but it was too late to catch up to Canada who face the daunting task of playing New Zealand in the Cup final.
Good bit of football skills helped Connor Trainor in the lead up to this try he scored on day 1 in Glasgow:
55 @ NZINCHINA:
It will Canada against you NZ, which should be a comfortable win and considering you went into this one 7 points ahead of South Africa who not done well and 24 points ahead of 3rd placed Fiji who can finish now higher than 3rd in Glasgow (play Scotland in 3rd/4th place play off) would think that winning today would pretty much give the series title to New Zealand unless they had a real shocker in London next weekend.
