Nick MallettEnglish club Gloucester want Nick Mallett as their new Director of Rugby after unexpectedly sacking Nigel Davies, the Gloucester Citizen website reports.

Davies was sacked on Monday after the Cherry and Whites lost to relegated Worcester Warriors at the weekend.

While the decision shocked many, it is understood it was in the pipeline following a disappointing season, which saw the club slump to ninth in the Premiership.

A shopping list has already been drawn up with former Springbok coach Mallett reportedly at the top of the list.

Whether Mallett would be interested in the role remains to be seen though. He currently enjoys a role as pundit on SuperSport, and recently stated he has no intention to return to full-time coaching.

Mallett, 57, will also coach the World XV in a one-off game when they tackle the Springboks at Newlands on 7 June.

He didn’t want a coaching position is SA as it is much harder work than a studio analyst for Supersport.
So let’s see now that the big money is thrown at him…

Hey Gena, yep lots of respect in Mallet and his in studio analysis, but being a studio coach is way way easier than coaching on the fields. Lets not forget, Mallet was the guy that picked Bergamasco at scrumhalf for Italy, that’s like selecting Duane vermeulen at scrumhalf lol

    Sup MacroBull,

Yes we are essentially stating the same.
But money talks they say, let’s see if he is willing to get his hands dirty again

To be honest I dont think he will, he has been a hit on supersport who won’t be paying peanuts, though less than what he could earn there. Besides I think he is really enjoying people hanging on his lips and where sarugby is essentially qouting his post match analysis and who wants to go to Gloucester, while he could stay in sunny south africa and see his family all week? It would really have to be French top 14 rates to attract him I think.
