It is alleged that Cheika had gone down to the pitch from his coach’s box in the stands during the match and requested not to be filmed before the altercation took place.
Cheika says he left his seat to speak to Waratahs captain David Dennis, who was serving a 10-minute stint in the sin-bin after being yellow-carded.
SuperSport confirmed that they have filed a complaint, which was eventually handed over to SANZAR.
SANZAR have in turn indicated that they will be investigating the matter on Wednesday.
Cheika claims that the reason for approaching Dennis directly was to ask him to approach the referee to speed up the game.
Cheika claims that Sharks captain Bismarck du Plessis was guilty of slowing the game down by engaging with referee Mike Frasier too often during breaks in play.
Sharks coach, Jake White, who has a tenuous history with Cheika, pointed out his counterpart’s aggressive nature, referring to the broken pane of glass at Canberra Stadium after the Waratahs’ loss to the Brumbies last month.
Cheika responded by calling White “disingenious” after which he viewed his rant as a compliment.
