The Chiefs have been given a boost for this weekend’s Super Rugby match against a resurgent Crusaders team in Hamilton on Saturday as Brodie Retallick has been passed fit.

Retallick was forced to leave the field in Saturday’s ninth round match against the Melbourne Rebels after suffering a head knock but looks OK to play this weekend.

The lock suffered a heavy head knock in the second round when he collided with his team-mate and prop Ben Afeaki but the Chiefs are in the dark about how the most recent incident occurred.

“We’ve been through the footage we can’t even see where he got a knock,” coach Dave Rennie told ONE Sport.

“He just had a really big headache which dissipated pretty quickly after the game.”

Retallick’s running formed part of the concussion tests that the 24-cap All Black has passed and importantly this time there was no neck trauma.

“The one on the weekend hasn’t been anything like that so as long as there’s no symptoms showing and I’m getting through those tests alright,” Retallick said.

“I definitely don’t want to miss that one (the clash against the Crusaders), so doing all I can to get back out there,” he said.

The Chiefs have also revealed that midfielder Robbie Fruean completed his first training session on Tuesday after returning from hear surgery. Fruean does however remain unvailable for Chiefs selection.

The Chiefs have won their last three home matches against the Crusaders.
