The Cheetahs play their seventh game of the season when they host the Chiefs on Saturday, and Nyakane may finally get a starting role in 2014.
Coenie Oosthuizen, who withdrew from the Cheetahs’ Australasian tour a few weeks back with a neck injury, is expected to return from the bench.
He will await word from a specialist on Tuesday in order to be available.
The other prop, Caylib Oosthuizen, is struggling with a hamstring injury and will be given until Friday to prove his fitness, which means Nyakane will likely get a starting role.
Specialist tighthead Maks van Dyk is expected to stay in his starting role, with Rossouw de Klerk on the bench.
Kick-off at the Free State Stadium is at 15:00 on Saturday.
