glasgowrugbyWe brought the news last week of two of Glasgow Warriors loose forwards, Tyrone Holmes and Rob Harley, extending their contracts with the Scottish club. Both players signed two year extension to their contracts which will see them featuring for the Scotstoun based team until at least May 2016.

It has since been confirmed that two more back rowers who were approaching the end of their contracts have signed on for further terms for Glasgow.  These players are Ryan Wilson and James Eddie.

Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend was pleased with the decision to extend the contracts of  Wilson and Eddie as this continues to give him various options in the loose forward department. He has also stated that they will have big roles to play for the club.

Place of Birth Aldershot
Height 1.90m
Weight 105kg

The 24 year old Wilson has signed a two year extension to his original contract. He joined Glasgow Warriors in 2010 and has played 78 times for the club in that time, featuring at flank or number 8, although in one RaboDirect PRO12 this season he had to fill in briefly at centre as a substitute.

Ryan Wilson made his debut for Scotland in the 2013 RBS 6 Nations against Wales at Murrayfield and now has nine caps for his country. He missed out on the start of the season for Glasgow due to injury but went on to play in all five of Scotland’s RBS 6 Nations games this year.

Speaking about the extension Wilson said: “Playing for the Warriors has given me the opportunity to go on and play for Scotland and I’m really enjoying my rugby just now.  There is a great atmosphere around the club and there is huge strength in depth within the squad. It was an easy decision for me to stay in Glasgow and I’m looking forward to the next couple of years.”

Gregor Townsend said: “Ryan has improved every year since he’s been at the club and is one of the most skilful backrow players in the game. He’s very quick and has really good offload skills. He’s put a lot of effort into improving physically and he tackles low and gets up and competes for the ball, which is what we like to see in our players.”

The 28 year old fans favourite Eddie, often referred to as Jedi,  has signed a one year extension to his contract. He joined Glasgow Warriors as an apprentice in 2004 and has played 104 times for the club, having made his senior debut for the club early in 2006. He was also part of the Glasgow Warriors sevens squad that won the Melrose 7s a few weeks ago.

At international representative level he has played for Scotland under-18, under-19 and under-21s as well as for Scotland A and the Scotland sevens team.

Speaking about the extension James Eadie said: “Glasgow is my hometown club and I’m really happy to be staying.  We’ve got a really competitive squad and my ambition is to win a major trophy with the Warriors.  I love being part of the club and I’m very excited about the direction it’s heading in.”

Gregor Townsend said: “James is very popular within the squad and he’s had an excellent season so far. He works very hard to improve himself and has made a big impact in a number of games this season.  He has also played very well for Scotland 7s this year and was a key player for us when we won the Melrose 7s.

“James is someone we know we can always rely on and we’re delighted he’s staying at the club next season.”
