Eben EtzebethDHL StormersSouth AfricaLock Eben Etzebeth, who is sidelined with an ankle injury, should be ready to play for the Springboks in June.

The 22-year-old said he is hoping to return to action when the Stormers tackle the Sharks in Durban on 31 May. That would be the Cape side’s third last Super Rugby league match.

Bok coach Heyneke Meyer would be able to test Etzebeth’s match fitness against a World XV at Cape Town Stadium on 7 June, before the Boks play their first Test against Wales in Durban on 14 June.

“I still have two more weeks of rehabilitation in Stellenbosch before seeing a specialist at the end of the month. The screw comes out on 2 April,” said Etzebeth.

He was injured on the Springboks’ year-end tour of Europe late last year.

“I’m already walking comfortably, and also train on the exercise bike and rowing machine. I can feel I’m getting better. Hopefully I’ll get enough playing time to come into consideration for the June Tests.”
