    Lot of discussion here the last few weeks about our refs
    Very poor so far, and at some stage the NZ and Aus refs will retaliate
    But you have a good draw, should bank maximum points in the derbies, the other SA teams are not close to the sharks, and should end top of the log

    @ nortierd:
    It’s a certainty that Aus & NZ will retaliate and rightly so!
    So now it’s the Sharks time on the gravy train?
    😉

    In fairness, Stuart Berry was a one side referee but;
    the whole game plan of the Blues – as all the NZ teams for that matter – is to play outside the rules, and Berry let them getting on with it: offside at the rucks, forward passes and high tackles, he did penalise them for peanuts size transgressions though

    @Hondo
    Agreed, the NZ teams do push the boundaries, and in general their defense so far this tournament has been way below par, but I’m not convinced that every time a SA side gets inside their half it should be a penalty.
    The most shocking decision for me this weekend was the try by the Lions where Berry went to the TMO and already ruled that it was a knock back instead of a knock on.
    If that tackle had taken place on the half way line I am convinced he would have called a knock on, any ref would have.
    a Close second must be Lourens trying to convince the world that Mvovo didn’t knock on, then that McCloud didn’t use his legs to assist with his forward motion and that he then didn’t knock on as well.
    That was poor and smacked of a referees desperation to will a try instead of accepting that the Sharks blew an opportunity.

    It’s really a pity that the refs get more discussion time than the play, but that is an indictment on the poor standard of rugby. And I know the Sharks won’t like this, but one common demoninator so far is that every week their team does benefit from some dubious call.
    They would still win the games, they are more than good enough, but it doesn’t hide the fact that the opposition must play even that little bit better just to get a shot at winning.

    so far there has heen a pattern evolving whereby if it looks like a try has been scored (ie. a players gets it anywhere near the goal line) then it is assumed to be a try without any conclusive evidence. and the TMO is called to comclusively without a doubt see a movement that 100% denies the try (ie a forward pass thats atleast 5m forwards, a knock on at a 90′ angle crawling 3m).

    It serves SANZARS goal to sell the product with the ammount of tries being scored, but it alienates each and every one of us that already support the game.

    It is not a case where there is doubt call should go to the home team anymore. even 30/70 are going towards the attacking team.

    not home team. meant defending team

    @ nortierd:

    @ MacroBull:
    We were not ‘seen’ things, I watched the replay last night
    SA referees will always be instructed to bend games, most will follow it (except of Lawrence and Kaplan in their days), SANZAR reverted back to Neutral referees at the beginning of this season, it must be they permitted that stench of using local referees due to a cost cutting motives Angry
    And you are absolutely right, SARU is ruining the product they try to market; last season already indicated a ratings drop of the SR due to scoundrels who took out the upset element!
    Saying that, Berry didn’t penalise often the Blues for their persistent offside at the rucks, their forward passes (last 3 tries) and heinous hits by the PIs, so the Lions supporters can feel that his bias was ‘balanced’
    No mitigation for V.d.Merwe though, hope the Reds will raise a hell with SANZAR and the ARU!
    We shall see Tue if the Refs’ assignment are affected

    Welll done Sharks. Just keeping fingers crossed that their is no injuries. Saw Alberts holding his hand when he came off and Bissie had his knee strapped . Hope both are okay.

    @ Puma:
    Congratulations Your team did very well Puma, Sharks are probably our Saffas’ only chance of winning this comp. BUT faaark bru, that Doc Jannie pissed us supporters off big time with his arrogance! Please get rid of this prick and save us all the embarrassment of listening to his constant girlish wailing and lecturing the refs(..and please send him for some English classes after hours!) He was useless against the Pumas last season and got his arse handed to him during the eoyt as well. The man has a real kuk attitude, very unprofessional conduct for a medical doctor,imo.
