Des Fountain shared the following with fans via his official Twitter account:
Was expecting this. Still a sad day for a man to give up his dreams
Young man, realise that as one door closes, another opens.
Life away from your dreams will be hard to get accustomed toe. Different daily routines and speheres of influence will make you question your decision, but things will slowly turn around, and eventually, whilst still missing the Rugby player lifestyle, you’ll realise that there are other things to carry on with, and goals to achieve.
Hopefully you have other options open to you that will enable you to care for your young family.
Not every Rugby player is destined for International stardom playing for their country, and it is players like you that carry the hopes and aspirations of hundreds of thousands of supporters screaming for their local team week in and week out.
All the best for the future.
