Johan GoosenThe Bulls are reportedly eager to attain the services of Springbok and Cheetahs flyhalf Johan Goosen.

The 21-year-old’s contract with the Cheetahs expires on 31 October this year and it appears the Cheetahs will have their hands full to convince him to stay in Bloemfontein.

Outside unions are only allowed to officially negotiate with players four months (1 July) prior to the ending of their contract, but apparently the Bulls have already shown interest.

“We’re investigating all options for Johan. The Bulls have always expressed interest in Johan, but they’ll have to wait until the transfer period for local teams,” said Goosen’s agent, Anthony Johnson.

“The Cheetahs have indicated they want to keep Goosen. We’re busy making decisions but for now it’s important that Johan gets game time. We’ll monitor his progress over the next two months and then make a decision.”

Big-spending French club, Toulon, are reportedly also after Goosen’s services, as well as a few clubs in Japan.

This would be the kiss of death for Goosen’s running and passing game.

Don’t think we should be looking at getting Goosen at the Bulls, we need to make things work with the flyhalves we have. Seems like getting JLP back is already proving to be a good move, Pollard has all the potential and is still young and I also hear good things about Snyman, plus read the junior flyhalf think its Kobus Marais is also very promising although don’t know if he is still at the Blue Bulls.

We also don’t want to buy another Free State player who is injury prone, I think we have burnt our fingers there too often, most recently Marcel v/d Merwe, Gurthro Steenkamp… as good as they may be one has to wonder about the cost of carrying injured players have been to us, injuries can happen anytime but to buy in players who turn out to miss out a lot is questionable, almost a whole season on the sidelines at the Blue Bulls for v/d Merwe who came injured from Bloemfontein.
