All Black and Hurricanes centre Conrad Smith admitted he was surprised by the Stormers’ showing against the Lions in Johannesburg last week.
Sport24
The Capetonians produced one of their worst performances ever to go down 34-10 at Ellis Park in their first Super Rugby game of the season.
“I watched a replay of the game and yes, I was surprised,” Smith said while his side prepares to tackle the Stormers at Newlands on Friday.
He does, however, expect the Stormers to be much better on their home ground.
“As was the case with us, the Stormers played their first game last weekend. The same happened to the Crusaders last year when they lost to the Blues after having a bye in the first round.
“These things happen. I’m sure the Stormers will be a totally different team this week.”
The Hurricanes themselves lost 27-9 to the Sharks in Durban last week and Smith said they must take their chances this time round.
“We struggled in the scrums early in the game. It’s not like set pieces are a weakness for us but it counts as one of the Sharks and Stormers’ strengths.
“It’s easy for the backs to blame the forwards, but we had enough chances to beat the Sharks. We let ourselves down.”
Friday’s clash kicks off at 19:10.
see you all tomorrow.
@ grootblousmile:
Pity the coach is so stubborn, every one from the outside can see the weak links

Tjorts ou maat.
182 @ Sharks_forever:
Is it because they’re in too deep that Frans Ludeke & Co can’t see daylight anymore… and just has blind faith in their current options?
They obviously cannot stand outside and look in objectively….
@ grootblousmile:
I am also not sure picking the Lock at 8thman is the right thing, yes it might work brilliantly.
For me the running lines, defensive lines, linking with backline etc is so different from 8thman to lock.
But yeah maybe it works, what it shows me is that the Coach has no faith in the up and coming loose forwards in PTA, Or there is no depth? which I cannot believe.
It seems to me your coach ran out of luck when the senior players that he inherited and won SR with left he seems to be found wanting
Those players it seems carried him??????
@ grootblousmile:
Well there you say exactly what I was thinking as per my post????
185 @ Sharks_forever:
I suppose we’ll see on the weekend… eish
@ grootblousmile:
For what it is worth??? I have a feeling the Bulls are going to lift themselves a bit and will win by4 that’s my prediction, I lost points on you guys last week, but I am still of the opinion that you never underestimate the Bulls
