The New Zealand leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series, in Wellington, was played this weekend.
The South African Blitzbokke started their bid to win a 3rd Tournament in a row in fine fashion, by beating Wales 26 / 0 and beating Portugal 27 / 5.
The Blitzbokke’s next challenge was England, and the game was won by England, by 19 / 5. Both England and South Africa advance to the Cup Quarters, England played Samoa and the Blitzbokke played Australia.
New Zealand comfortably beat France, 47 / 0 in the last game of Day 1, after earlier losing to Fiji, but also advanced to the Cup Quarters, where they played against Canada.
At the 2nd Day of the tournament, New Zealand and South Africa advanced all the way to the final, with Fiji beating England in the 3rd place play-off.
New Zealand won the final by 21 / 0 against the South African Blitzbokke, capitalizing on mistakes and shutting the Blitzbokke out in the 2nd half.

Great scrambling by the Blitzbokke. Fiji down to 6 men after a high tackle.
@ Stormersboy:
Thank you kind sir… I am supposed to be in Cape Town from Monday but the flights and hotels were full… Have no idea what is happening in the GREAT city…
I’m at work so please keep me updated on the seven’s…
SA very quick to shut down Fiji before they get any momentum.
Fiji back to 7 men.
Still 10 – 0
@ Stormersboy:
Are you going to the cricket? I will try for Saturday…
@ Gumboots:
Will do, you can watch it on this link if your internet is strong:
http://www.vipboxasia.co/rugby/206565/2/hsbc-sevens-world-series-new-zealand-live-stream-online.html
@ Gumboots:
I’d really like to but will have to travel down to Durban on Sunday for the week and weekend so will need to put in some “family time” so will play it by ear.
SA controlling posession as much as possible, looks like they will win this, not enough time left.
Final whistle. 10 – 0.
SA never looked like they were going to lose it, and will meet a rampant New Zealand in the final.
Gonna be tough. Can we make it 3 in a row?
SA leading the log by about 1 point over New Zealand, so this is critical.
@ Stormersboy:
Great! Who are they playing in the final… I guess the Kiwis…
No problem. We had great fun at Centurion the other night… Met up with the boy after the game… He went in with six runs to go…
I can’t read… Sorry I see the AB’s…
@ Gumboots:
Yes must have been great! My ADD really starts to struggle when the seasons (rugby/cricket) start to overlap.
Just don’t know where to start….
😀
@ Stormersboy:
I have become quite a good surfer so rugby, cricket swopping easy really…
@ Gumboots:
And now the winter Olympics.
OK so the final is scheduled for 10h30 SA time.
See ya’ll later.
@ Stormersboy:
I watched a bit of the opening ceremony last night. Will follow Canada with interest this year. We went to Whistler and visited the areas of the 2010 Winter Olympics. There wasn’t much snow though which was strange for that time of the year…
104 @ Gumboots:
Ah, some Gummyberry juice added to the site.
Welcome Gumboots, to the Friendly Rugby Website.
You are another one of those I met at Loftus….
@ Gumboots:
Nice to meet you Gumboots!
Morning all RTs…..and Grootblou webmonster.
GO BLITSBOKKE, MOER HULLE!!!!
Ozzies stole this one, lucky, lucky…..Canada played well ( I see they are coached by Crowley, the AB flyhalf of 1986 Cavaliers in South Africa).
106 @ Pietman:
Hello Pietman!
Kyk bietjie na Comment # 61 van my.
@ grootblousmile:
Indeed! I think it was the Bulls – Stormers game. I said I would join, but was sidetracked with Vancouver trip…
I look forward to some nice banter and fun…
@ Pietman:
Thanks for the kind welcome… 🙂
109 @ Gumboots:
Good, enjoy it!
Rugby-Talk is the future.
England vs Fiji now on, for 3rd place.
Then it will be the final between New Zealand vs Blitzbokke, very fitting final.
@ Gumboots:
Jy moet maar soms ore toedruk bruvva, ons vloek erg hier op RT! @ grootblousmile:
@108 Gesien, goeie werk bruvva! Laat my dink aan daai keer toe ons die Soweto-spannetjie geborg het in Bethlehem. Doen so voort ou maat.
113 @ Pietman:
Fiji 7 / 0 England, Halftime
@ grootblousmile:
That big winger of the Bokke, where is he from, do you know? First time I have seen him in action. Jeez, but that boykie can motor!Must just get the ball to him and let him run freely against the ABs.
2nd Half ON!
@ grootblousmile:
@114 Klink goed man.
