Springbok fullback Willie le Roux will be rested from the Cheetahs’ two warm-up matches in Port Elizabeth this week, according to reports.
Le Roux fell on his shoulder during the Cheetahs’ warm-up game against Shimlas last week. He is not badly injured but won’t be risked for games against NMMU (Tuesday) and the EP Kings (Saturday).

However, two other big guns – flyhalf Johan Goosen and scrumhalf Shaun Venter – will return to action against the Kings.
Coach Naka Drotské said Venter – who underwent a shoulder operation last year – will get about 20 minutes against his old team-mates, while Goosen will play 40 minutes.
Drotské said Le Roux will be rested as a precautionary measure with Hennie Daniller doing duty at fullback. The latter also recently returned to action following a wrist injury.
The Cheetahs on Saturday named a 36-man training squad for their week-long camp in Jeffreys Bay (See Article on the Squad HERE).
The squad was named after they thrashed Shimlas 66-19 at Free State University on Friday, while their second-choice side lost 21-19 to Griquas’ Vodacom Cup side.
On 1 February the Cheetahs will play against the Pumas in Parys, before they open their 2014 Super Rugby campaign against the Lions in Bloemfontein on Saturday 15 February.
Team announced to play Kings in PE:
Hennie Daniller, Cornal Hendricks, Johann Sadie, Francois Venter, Raymond Rhule, Johan Goosen, Kevin Luiters, Philip van der Walt, Lappies Labuschagné, Jean Cook, Lood de Jager, Francois Uys, Coenie Oosthuizen, Adriaan Strauss (k), Trevor Nyakane. REPLACEMENTS: Ryno Barnes, Caylib Oosthuizen, Nicolaas van Dyk, Ligtoring Landman, Boom Prinsloo, Shaun Venter, Elgar Watts, Rayno Benjamin.
Daniller in to rest Willie as reported above, and Luiters there to ease Shaun Venter back in the fray!
According to Hawies, this is close to what will run out in the opening fixture vs. the Lions. Sarel should come in at 9 then.
Interesting to see Maks van Dyk rated above Rossouw de Klerk!
