Scotland A are scheduled to play against England Saxons on Friday night (31 January) at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow and will be looking at getting their third victory in a row against the Saxons. Kick off is at 21:30 SA Time (19:30 GMT). The game will be broadcast live on Scottish Rugby’s Youtube channel.
A few RaboDirect Pro12 games have had to be called off at the ground this season due to the field being waterlogged.
Heavy rain is expected in the afternoon in the Glasgow area with the rain becoming lighter by kick off, hopefully the game will go ahead.
The ground staff will have their hands full with the expected conditions although it has been quite dry for the last few days in the area so hopefully the rain will not cause to many problems. They will probably have large covers over the field for as long as possible to keep the worst of the rain out.
Both teams have been announced.
Scotland A will be captained by nineteen year old lock Jonny Gray who has already played for the Scotland senior team. The team has another eleven Glasgow Warriors in it, including former Western Province loose forward Tyrone Holmes and Richie Vernon who has been making the transition from loose forward to centre and is listed as a backline substitute. The rest of the team is made of six Edinburgh Rugby players and four players who ply their trade outside Scotland.
England Saxons will be captained by Northampton Saints flanker Calum Clarke who will be joined in the backrow by fellow Saints eighthman Sam Dickenson. Freddie Burns who has been relegated from the main England team will be starting at flyhalf and he will have the exciting Kyle Eastmond next to him at inside centre. The Saxons have the luxury of really good backs in halfback Henry Slade and flyer Charlie Sharples on the bench.

The game will be streamed on Scottish Rugby’s YouTube channel and will be the first of four live matches designed to showcase the best of Scotland and England’s emerging rugby talent.
Also to be featured live on the channel will be two Scotland under-20 matches against England (Friday 7 February, 7.30pm) and France (Friday 7 March, 19:30) from Netherdale and the women’s international between Scotland and England (Sunday 9 February, 14:00) from Aberdeen.
Final score: Scotland A 16/16 England Saxons, half time it was 6/10 wit England ahead.
One try each with a first half penalty try for England Saxons and a well worked try for Scotland A in the left corner by McGuigan in the second half and very well converted from near the touchline by substitute flyhalf Tom Heathcote. Generally a scrappy game with a lot of kicking played on a cabbage patch. Although the game generally improved with various Scotland A subs coming on during the second half and them upping the tempo, carrying the ball and passing more. Heathcote badly shanked an attempt from out right to tie the scores late in the game but soon after made no mistake from straight in front to make it 16/16.
