The Springboks are likely to play a game against a World XV at Cape Town Stadium later this year.
According to reports, the game is due to be played on 7 June 2014.
Mayoral committee member for tourism, events and marketing, Grant Pascoe, said they are in talks with the SA Rugby Union (SARU) and the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) about the possibility of hosting the game.
“They (SARU and WPRFU) have the Test at Newlands against Australia ( 27 September 2014) and then they’re looking at another game (in Cape Town) against a World XV at Cape Town Stadium,” said Pascoe.
Pascoe added that all the rulings have not yet been finalised.
Executive director of tourism, events and marketing, Anton Groenewald, said they are waiting on a political decision on the matter after the proposal was brought to the attention of Western Cape premier Helen Zille and Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille.
With the upcoming elections top of the agenda at present, a final decision could be delayed for a short while.
WPRFU president Thelo Wakefield said they support the idea.
“SARU asked us if we’d like to come on board and we agreed. It’s a top-notch match coming here and it’s good for the fans,” said Wakefield.
Wakefield said the fact that it won’t be an official Test and the possibility of luring more than 48 000 fans to Cape Town Stadium make it appealing.
“The discussions around it are between the City Council and SARU. WP will act in an advisory capacity.”
It is well known that the City of Cape Town wants WP to move its headquarters away from Newlands.
Sport24 last week reported that the City and WP will renew talks about the union moving with a three-day meeting next month.
The workshop will take place from 11 to 13 February 2014.
Could be a nice warm-up game for the Springboks prior to the regular June Internationals.
Newlands is an old dirty dump with no parking. The sooner they move the better.
This is not to be hosted at Newlands…
What club will release players for this that wont be otherwise involved?
Teams already playing on 7 June: NZ, AUS, England, France, Ireland, Argentinia and Scotland.
Play a Bok 1 vs Bok 2 game or bok trials rather than some players that doesn’t make their countries touring squads. Or guys who did not make the bok team, like a North Vs South game, makes slightly more sense.
I feel offended that they would insist on calling any team the boks play that day a “world xv”.
Also
So far South Africa is seemingly only playing one game vs Wales, has anyone else picked this up?

Will there be a full series? is it finalised yet?
Nevermind, see we play two games vs Wales and one vs the Scots.
