The South African leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series, was held at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth, takes place on 7 and 8 December 2013.
The tournament was played in emotionally charged circumstances after the death of beloved South African and world statesman, Nelson Mandela, who passed away in the night of 5 December 2013.
In these circumstances the open question was whether South Africa’s Blitzbokke could go one better than the previous tournament when they were beaten in the final by Fiji.
The question was answered… the South African Blitzbokke are the winners and title holders at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth!

New Zealand beat Portugal in the 1st game of the tournament, 43 / 0
Scotland’s Mark Bennett was added to their squad for this tournament, he is 20 year old and plays his club rugby for Glasgow Warriors – at centre but can also play wing. Quite highly rated he was called up to Scotland squad by Scott Johnson for end of year tours but didn’t get to play. Will be keen to hear how he gets on in the tournament, quite a tough introduction in the pool against Fiji and Australia, hope he adapts well. Back to the 15 man game – have seen him put over some long range penalties and at 6ft 89kg and probably still some growing to do he could be one of a rare breed (of late) of bulky inside backs, would be keen to see him get a run at flyhalf to see if he can develop into a good one, but problem is that Scotland only have the two Pro clubs and at Glasgow he would be in the line behind Weir and Jackson, but think it is an experiment worth trying.
@ grootblousmile:

Hello Pietman how are you doing in the desert? Going good here thanks yeah has been cold with some nice snow although not enough, should melt away for a bit tomorrow. Not watching the 7s just keeping eye on the scores, if you are watching please keep an eye on Scotland’s Mark Bennett and let me know what you think
5 @ grootblousmile:
Hello GBS enjoy the rugby
@ Bullscot:
Will do Bully, thx, checking Bennett.
I see the Australians are properly bliksemming England in the 2nd Ashes Test… scored 570 / 9 Declared in the 1st innings, then had England out for 172. Mitchell Johnson took 7 wickets for 40 runs! Strange though that they did not enforce the follow on and decided to rather bat again, ending on 132 / 3 at Stumps Day 3.
Fiji easily dispatched Australia!
They are the team to watch again
Bully’s man Bennett #10 on the bench.
Bennett with some good touches for the Scots… caused 1 try already
…. en die gemaskerde donner score vir die Franse…
Lyk soos Robin, van Batman & Robin
France wins 33 / 21 Scotland
Next up will be the Blitzbokke vs Canada…
Of course all sides are wearing black arm bands in tribute to Madiba
Moment’s silence for Madiba, is observed
Game ON!
Try Mastriet
Blitzbokke 5 / 0 Canada
Try Afrika
Blitzbokke 12 / 0 Canada

Blitzbokke 17 / 0 Canada
Halftime
2nd Half ON!

@ grootblousmile:
Thanks guys hope he gets to show more of his ability rest of tournament, although pity about the loss seems like France were too good for Scotland, and to think that was probably the easiest game in pool, hope its not too bad against Aus and Fiji, oh well at least there are other trophies to play for in the 7s to keep teams interested that get knocked out of the main event.
Canada Try, Phil Mack
