So, who do we play next weekend…

I recon Morné Steyn at flyhalf, toss-up between Jaque and JJ at outside centre.

    Locks? Bakkies & Flip again….

Loosies, Flo (if he can play), Alberts, Duane Vermeulen.

Front row… Beast, Adriaan Strauss, Coenie

Back 3… Habana, JP Pietersen, Willie le Roux

Tighthead prop is a real worry for the Bokke, with Frans Malherbe having gone off injured, wonder what is wrong with him.

Phew back up the road now in warm kebab shop waiting for food, what a fantastic rugby weekend! With my thistle tinted glasses on must say didn’t think the score was a true reflection of the game, just Boks were more clinical and Scotland handling let them down, score was 7/0 for quite some time then in short space of time it was 21/0 after the intercept try by Le Roux, capitalising on Scotland mistake at a time they were looking good deep in Boks territory. Other thing it looked like the Bok forwards were physically more dominant at times. Missed last 15 min so will need to try watch game again.

Fourie du Preez will not be available for the Boks’ final Test of the year in Paris on Saturday.

According to a Saru press release, it was agreed with Du Preez’s Japanese club Suntory Sungoliath that he would be released after the Scotland Test. He has been replaced in the squad by Toulouse No 9 Jano Vermaak.

‘Fourie will be sorely missed as he was Man of the Match in two of the five Tests he played this season,’ said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer. ‘He really put his body on the line the last fortnight, and we are very fortunate, though, to replace him [in the starting line-up] with another world-class player in Ruan Pienaar.

‘It was always part of the plans for Jano to join the team for the France week,’ Meyer added. ‘He needed game time and had standout performances for his club in the last couple of weeks. He has been part of the squad before and knows our plans and systems well. He will be used to the conditions in France and I am looking forward to work with him again.’

well I thought this was one totally uninspiring game of Rugby.

Sure JPP’s try was great but for the most part I was unimpressed.

I thought SA were far too one dimensional in the opening stanza, with one off runners hammering away without too much to show for it.

Admittedly the conditions weren’t great, and the opposition were abysmal IMHO, but if we were playing a decent team in the same conditions I’m not sure the result would have been the same.

It must be borne in mind that RWC 2015 will be played in the last week of september and the whole of October, so weather conditions may well be similar.

Bakkies was workmanlike but not at the same level as he was in his prime, and I’m also not sold on Jacque Fourie.

Fourie du Preez though showed that there is a MASSIVE gap in terms of true quality at 9. He ALWAYS draws the opposition when he runs, and even though he doesn’t always pass immediately, when he does the “two step” it seems to bring a different outcome to when Piennaar does so. I think his hand speed is the difference to be honest.

Lastly the pitch. Sure, we’ve read of the “challenges” that Murrayfield has with the little fish food type creatures, but in this day and age to present a field like that for an international Test match (and last week in Wales) is just not acceptable.

It’s time the IRB set minimum requirements and stood by them. If the field isn’t up to scratch a month before the due date, move the flipping game.

Now, I wonder which French side are going to pitch up next week.

    @ Scrumdown:
Don’t get me wrong guys, I’m more than happy with the result under the circumstances, I just thought it could have (and should have) been better.

As SA Rugby supporters we EXPECT (and demand) excellence.

    @ Scrumdown:
I lost interest in the game and luckily the mother of all thunder storms saved you guys from my “half empty glass” comments about this stale performance. Really against the All Blacks this type of play would have been the most embarrassing imaginable.
Lambie is not even nearly in the same class as Morne and Morne is not the Worlds best play maker. You could see HM in the coaching box , his face told you the story of a man forced to use Lambie, but it looked like a coach who is not happy. Lambie is totally stupid and have no vision. He is the luckiest player to have more than 30 caps, almost 25 must be little 5-10 minute cameos.

    Lambie Age 23

First Test: 6 Nov 2010 Age:20 Reserve against Ireland at Aviva Stadium (Lansdowne Road), Dublin
Test summary: Tests: 31 Tries: 1

    Reserve 19
    Run on Tests 12

My Verdict – NO excuse to be so insecure

    @ superBul:

Some catch up to do Mr Lambie
Morne Test summary: Tests: 53 Tries: 8

Du Preez said: “I’m very thankful for the opportunity I had to play for the Springboks this year and I really enjoyed my time with the team. I’d like to thank everyone who made it possible, especially SARU, my family and my club.

“It was wonderful to be part of the team this year, to see how well they operate and to work with a group of committed players and management.”

Didn’t want to bring up the AB’s but that was my thought during the game.

I also think we would have battled to beat England in the same circumstances.

Still, the record books will relfect a win, with Scotland failing to get any points at all.

An ugly win, but a win nonetheless.

  • 252

    @ Scrumdown:
Agree , i take ANY win before a beautiful loss.
And HM record looks better by the day.
One big hurdle to cross and that is again that AB word.
Damn if we can one day beat them 5 times in a row i will kiss the coaches feet. And believe me i think i will have to do it one day. Hope it is not the next coach who will plough with HM,s men like PdeV was always accused off.

Aussies really have problems, whats going on there

Australia coach Ewen McKenzie announced Monday that six Wallaby players would receive one-match bans for “inappropriate” drinking.
In addition, McKenzie also sanctioned a further nine players for “breaches of internal team protocols”, with punishments determined by the “severity of the infraction” and on expectations of those players included in the matchday 23 to play Ireland.
“Let’s be clear — these are internal sanctions and aren’t a result of any complaints or reports of inappropriate or sinister behaviour while our players were out,” he said.

“We’ve done this because we need to continually reinforce the need for our players to make smart decisions to benefit the team.

“Doing nothing to address poor behaviour will never be an option,” McKenzie

    @ superBul:
“Away from the field they enjoy it, have a good time, but you’ve got to remember you’ve got a game to play on Saturday,” said McKenzie.

“It doesn’t mean you go out and drink Guinness all night, but you go out and see what’s going on, there is plenty of history to look at. It’s the balance.”

SNAP superBul must have come across article on this at similar time to and just put up a thread, just seen your comment now!

    @ superBul:
The “nanny state” that Australia has become is now having a detrimental effect on the “young” people that grew up there.

IMHO the more you deny youngsters the chance to “live”, the more they will rebel against society and the greater the chance of “abusing” that which they were prevented from enjoying at a young age as they “mature”.

That Australian Rugby has a MAJOR problem in terms of their “young stars” complying with protocols is obvious. How they are going to fix that problem is not so obvious.
