Jonathan Kaplan who will be retiring after the Currie Cup will go out in style as he has been announced as the referee for the Currie Cup final between The Sharks and DHL Western Province on Saturday.
Kaplan will be refereeing his 6th and last final whereafter he will retire as a professional referee.
Kaplan has taken charge of 5 previous Currie Cup finals (2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009).
The only referee that has officiated more finals is André Watson, with 7 Currie Cup finals.
This is a great send-off to Kaplan who has been a true servant of rugby.
He will on Saturday be assisted by Christie du Preez and Stefan Breytenbach and the TMO will be a Deon van Blommestein.
I think some of us might be happy it is Kaplan’s last match in charge…
Sharks se grootste troefkaart, nou is die game 50/50 ….. 😉
WP kan bly wees dit was nie Mark Lawrence nie, dan was dit 60/40 vir die Sharks.
1 @ grootblousmile: Hmmmmm….the name Superbul springs to mind!!!
Poor old JK. Enjoy the “retirement” Jonathon. I guess you’ve earned it.
Went from being the best ref in the world to an opinionated prat who thinks he is bigger than the game.
Having said that, are there any REALLY GOOD ref’s coming through the system?
Those I see “blowing” the CC games all seem to flatter to deceive.
