Australians are today mourning the death of a legend.
Edward Heinrich, who is considered a classic Wallaby, has passed away last night at the age of 73.
Heinrich was born in Sydney in 1940 and attended St Joseph’s College where he excelled at numerous sporting activities as well as captaining their first XV in 1956 and 1957.
Heinrich played first grade rugby since 1958 as a flanker, he did however posses exceptional speed for a flanker so was often used on the wing. He also scored 20 tries (60pts) during his first grade career.
In 1959 he made his debut for NSW and had a total of 11 appearances for them. Two years after making his debut for NSW he also became a Wallaby.
He made his debut for the Wallabies against Fiji in 1961. He went on to earn 10 caps for the Wallabies and was also part of the squad, which achieved an historic win over England in 1934.
His final test match was against South Africa in 1963.
Heinrich represented Randwick on 90 occasions and NSW on 11. He represented Australia 33 times, with only 10 out of the 33 being capped tests.
