With All Black captain Richie McCaw potentially ruled out for the rest of The Rugby Championship, coach Steve Hansen has called up Crusader flanker Matt Todd.
With Richie McCaw out for about a month with a medial ligament injury, Sam Cane seems to be the likely starter against the Springboks in Auckland this coming weekend.
The All Black coach has high hopes that McCaw will be ready for the Test against the Springboks in South Africa, but the more likely situation is that McCaw will only be back for the final Bledisloe Cup fixture against Australia.
Luckily for McCaw it would seem that there will not be need for any surgery.
Although Sam Cane has the backing of the coaching staff to start against the Springboks, he is not the only back rower in the mix, as Chiefs captain Liam Messam is also still in the mix, it has not yet been confirmed who will start.
Ma’a Nonu also seems to be choice to start at inside center against the Springboks as Francis Saili did not have a big impact on his debut in Hamilton.
