RuanPienaarRuan Pienaar seems to be the latest interest for French side Toulon.

According to reports from France it seems that Toulon is chasing Pienaar’s signiture.

Pienaar’s current contract with Ulster expires at the end of this season.

Pienaar who joined Ulster in 2010 from the Sharks has scored 500 points in only 63 matches and has played a big part in the Ulster success of the past couple of seasons.

Pienaar also received player of the year in his debut season at the Irish club and would most likely leave a gap in the team, should the move to Toulon take place. The move seems likely as the financial benefit for the Irish club will mean that they can also go head-hunting for a possible younger replacement, to replace the 29-year old Pienaar.

Toulon already has 2 Springboks under contract and would like to make Pienaar number 3. They are however currently sitting with 3 scrumhalves in Frederic Michalak, Sebastian Tillous-Borde and Michael Claassens, which could see Pienaar used more at number 10, this all the more likely due to the retirement of Johnny Wilkinson in May 2014.

    Only 2 Springboks?

Claasens, Bakkies, Danie, Habana, Juan Smith…

If Ruan and Shalk signes they will have more springboks in their team than the Blue bulls.

    :O

    @ MacroBull:
With all the quota talk maybe we must play Toulon in Green and Gold and claim the Springbok emblem witch are hated by the Gov. anyway. Weary

Still a bunch of (mostly) has-beens in my opinion. Many of them were great players once, but would struggle to make a Green and Gold team currently (Habs the obvious exception)

@ Stormersboy – I have to agree. They are a bit like Real Madrid in soccer. They have the money so they are playing chess with the players.
And a lot of people do not realize what happens behind the scenes. For example. Toulon signs Habana for 1 mil. This means they have just spent 1 million. How do they recover the costs. Firstly how many Jersey’s are going to be sold with his name on the back. Secondly how many fans are going to come watch Toulon play. So they are not picking players on merit. They are picking players on how much that player can make them in his 2 or 3 years at Toulon. Why else buy players almost on retirement. So in esense Buy Habana for 1 million but in return they sell 2 mil in Habana merchandise they ticket sales go up, because who would not want to see Wilkinson, Habana, Gittau, Drew mitchell all in one team.
