Vodacom Blue BullsBlue Bulls coach Pine Pienaar made three changes to his side that will play Western Province in a Currie Cup match at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Ulrich Beyers, who was initially named in the starting lineup failed a late fitness test, following an ankle injury, with Waylon Murray getting the nod at No 13, with William Small-Smith on the bench in place of Murray. At scrumhalf, Rudy Paige starts in place of Ruan Snyman, who has moved to France.

Lohan Jacobs is the replacement No 9. Pine Pienaar also rotated Jacques Engelbrecht and Jacques du Plessis, with the latter now starting and Engelbrecht being used as impact player.

Dean Greyling will also make his first appearance in the competition and was picked as replacement prop.

“We did well last weekend and would like to build on that momentum,” Pienaar said.

“As we had real no injuries, it made sense to play with the same group of players, but I have made some tweaks that I believe will create the necessary spark for us,” Pienaar said.

Captain Jono Ross added: “We gave ourselves a chance to get into a play-off spot last week, but that will only be worthwhile if we can repeat that type of performance. We lacked consistency this far, so will have to be very focused on starting well and building a decent performance.”

    3 @ MacroBull:
Assume Visser will switch to flyhalf if needed possibly.

  • 6

    @ Bullscot:
Visser played flyhalf for WP Cravens (next to Johan Sadie), so yes, mytbe he is the backup.

    @ Bullscot:
Thats what worries me, I know he can, buthe is not ideal, he is a typical player that makes one bad kick at the start of the game then tries miserably the whole game to correct his mistake.

    @ MacroBull:
Don’t get to see the Vodacom Cup or Currie Cup, apart from the odd highlights package so don’t know too much about Visser, sometime I hear he is really good and then other time some folk are pointing out his mistakes. He must have some ability at flyhalf then if he played there at Craven week for WP, so at least he is less of a make-shift flyhalf option than I thought which I guess gives the coach more options in choosing his bench.

    @ Bullscot:
The problem is when we played the lions and Jantjies got injured and they propped Visser into flyhalf, was a disaster all over the park.

Ai tog MacroBull!!! we can just sit and watch!! I would like to know what Pine Pienaars credentials and claim to fame are?

    10 @ Tripples:
Pine Pienaar was at the Golden Lions when Frans Ludeke was still there… Frans eventually pulled Pine Pienaar to the Blue Bulls.

    @ grootblousmile:
Het Pine nie Vrystaat se juniors afgerig nie? Gedog hy was daar voor hy Bulle toe gekom het.
