  I suppose something like that was to be expected from the Comic Book King, Mourad Boudjellal…. weird and selfish fella who thinks the world owes him some debt of gratitude or something.

  It is not ideal, and the danger is that the other French Clubs & UK Clubs follow suit and want Morné Steyn, Jano Vermaak, Juandré Kruger, Gurthro Steenkamp, Chiliboy, Kirchner, Flo & Ruan Pienaar to also come back for a quick week…

  The Springboks will have a bye weekend between the Argies game and the Wallabies away game and the ideal thing would be to fly to Aussie early (which I understand is the idea), get settled in and prepare very well in all facets of play for 2 whole weeks.

  I like the stance of Heyneke Meyer that he’ll only respond to Boudjellal’s request AFTER the Pumas game late Saturday night.

  Hello Lion4ever ja the old club vs country debate that has been riddling football for so long is now rearing its head in rugby, one of the inevitable consequences of the professional nature. Not ideal but I guess for the owner of the club who is paying Habana so much (rumoured 50 000 Euros a month) he wants to get as much out of him as possible, but it is the international rugby window so he should have known that Habana would not be available at the moment. In spite of being the prized asset Habana is one of at least 6 wings in the Toulon squad so surely there is not a problem to find someone to play unless there have been a hoarde of injuries to their wingers. it is also simplistic for the owner to think that just because he is not playing for the Boks next weekend that he should play for Toulon. its not just a case of Habana taking a plane to another destination what about injuries – with all the various insurances in place surely he would have to be thoroughly checked over and signed off as completely fit by the Boks medical team after the test before he goes to Toulon and then the same process when he would be on his way back to the Boks. The time between test is also a good time for national coaches (in the international window) to spend working with his squad or giving them a bit of rest if they need it.

  Hello GBS it certainly isn’t ideal for the preparations of the Boks to have these distractions during the Championship. As you say it could open the doors for the other clubs as well, but at least for this bye weekend the likes of Kirchner, Flo and Ruan should not be called away as the UK and Ireland leagues have not yet started – would be hard for their clubs to justify asking for a player back during the international window for warm up friendlies. But the precedent has already been set with the arrangement with Fourie du Preez… Toulon play Racing Metro tonight – the battle of the Jonnies at flyhalf – Wilkinson for Toulon and Sexton for Racing Metro, I may get a chance to watch some of it, not seen any Top 14 yet so will be interesting to see what its like.

  I should have made that more accurate the leagues that the top professional teams in UK and Ireland take part in have not started – that’s where these players would be playing.
