The Brumbies may be bleating on about the challenge of beating the Vodacom Bulls in front of a full house at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, but initial indications are that the stadium may not even be full.
SuperSport
By Wednesday afternoon Bulls officials said that around 30 000 of the over 50 000 tickets were sold for the Vodacom Super Rugby semifinal, and barring a late rush the game may not be sold out at all.
The Bulls will be looking to the Crusaders to upset defending champions, the Chiefs in the early semifinal on Saturday morning South African time to ensure the final can be held at Loftus but will face a tough task against a Brumbies side that will also then be playing for a final in Canberra if they upset the odds at Loftus.
While big games in Pretoria sell out relatively quickly, there has been a slowing of ticket sales, with the Bulls reducing prices earlier this year for the June international double header where the Springboks faced Samoa.
One theory is that there are Bulls fans that are “saving” their money to buy tickets for the final, while another is that the new ticket structure that many of the season ticket holders have to pay for their match tickets – as the semi or final isn’t included in some categories of season tickets – is also a factor that is being pointed to.
Either way, the Bulls have always banked on the Loftus faithful to help them in big games, and Australian teams often talk about how hostile the ground is when it is full.
Bulls officials are hoping that there is a late rush, and will continue selling tickets up until the game, or the house full signs go up, but while some blame prices for the antipathy, the test match showed that while certain prices were reduced, it was those tickets that weren’t snapped up by the public, with many of the cheaper tickets going unsold on the day.
Match tickets can still be purchased online at Ticketpros and range between R150.00 and R300.00, with the more expensive seats on the main grand stand.
Arno Jordaan will perform on the main field while Joe F and Henk Grimsell will perform in the Beer Garden.
Park and ride busses are available from Cresta Shopping Centre, Clearwater mall, East Rand Mall, Cedar Square, Centurion Mall, Kolonnade and Menlyn Shopping Centre while the Gautrain will also run during the game.
Ja nee, dis ‘n skande, maar vrydag is payday… sal maar kyk.
Might some folks be waiting for the Chiefs / Crusaders result on Saturday… to see if there will be a Final to pay for as well?
Come on folks, even if you’re not a Bulls supporter… it’s a Super Rugby semi-final!
Is it apathy? Is rugby support or interest in Super Rugby dwindling? Is it a money issue in this economy of ours? Is it the fact that the Brumbies are from Australia and we like local derbies between local sides more (there was almost 50 000 at Loftus when the Bulls played the Sharks just a few weeks ago)?
Come on!
1 @ MacroBull:
Hehehehe
@ grootblousmile:
haha janee, amper enige verskoning tel deesdae…
Moenie match day agter n PC sit nie, gaan ondersteun jul span!!!!!
5 @ Gena_ZA:
Ek gaan agter ‘n PC sit… OP Loftus!
Hehehe
Just went on to Ticket Pros and looks like there are a lot of seats still available. Not like when I went to watch the Blue Bulls vs Lions, and then watched the main supporting game of Bulls vs Sharks.
@ grootblousmile:
Stop paying the laaties so much, and not halve the senior players salaries, then the money can be used to buy one or 2 key players.
11 @ Lion4ever:
With this extra money we will buy Franco van der Merwe, Demetri Catrakilis, Kyle Cooper, Piet van Zyl and Andries Coetzee… and have change spare to pay bonusses… hehehehe
12 @ MacroBull:
13 @ grootblousmile:
hehehe. Gbs,
You dreaming for sure if you think you will get Kyle Cooper to the Bulls or Franco for that matter…. 😛 I THINK if Lions don’t win their Promotion/Relegation game Franco just may come to the Sharks or head overseas. Also if Lions don’t make it think Sharks may get Coetzee. Demetri I think will go back to Stormers if Kings don’t make it to SR next year. Think the only player Bulls may get it Van Zyl.
I think Lions will be back in SR next year. Just think they have enough good players to win these two games. Then of course we all thought Kings would get a huge smack this year from every team. Well they never, they surprised us all. So just not totally sure who will go through, just at this point think Lions will.
Kings though did win plenty of us over with their great support they got at their stadium. Also how positive their team played. So will be sorry to not see them next year much as I felt sorry not to have Lions play SR this year as well. Roll on 2016 when we can finally be over this daft format and we here in SA can have our 6 teams to play SR. Do hope they do away with the home and away games in SR come 2016.
15 @ Puma:
Well, if the Bulls don’t win the semi this weekend, they’ll have an extra R 7.5 million (if not more) and if they do win the semi and host a Final they’ll have an extra R 15 million or more… to purchase players, which the Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs, Southern kings and Lions do not have… being just the ticket sales proceeds of the semi and final.
Start worrying Oompie… who else can we buy? Hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha!
Siesa!!
😀
I’m a Stormer supporter, but I will be there and will be wearing a blue shirt and cheering on the Bully Boys
I hope they get the win and of course I hope the Crusaders beat the Chiefs as well.
Really hoping to be going again next week to watch the final of all finals
17 @ nortierd:
If the Bulls do win the semi and the Saders do beat the Chiefs, why don’t we make a rather large Rugby-Talk posse to go watch the final together at Loftus?
16 @ grootblousmile:
Hey klein boetie, Your Bulls have bought up just about every young player in this fine land of ours. The reason they don’t have money to buy any top senior players right now, whether they win the SR or not…. Did they not half some of the rugby players salaries? Or was that just a rumour….
They wanted to pay PSDT more than any other union in this country and they STILL lost out getting him to sign, so there…. he still signed with my Sharks….
Serious though, just hope Bulls stay away from my Shark players…. hehehe. They were also after Bissie, but if Jannie has signed with Sharks then Bissie will stay with his boet there that is for sure…. 🙂
Think the money Bulls make from hosting the semi and probably the final they will have to look after it well. Or up their players salaries that have been halved……
Okay going to eat dinner now…. So bye bye… catch up tomorrow. Have been hectic here today. Very busy.
17 @ nortierd:
Nortie, Just wear your blue and white stripes…hahaha. If I went would wear my black and white…. 🙂 🙂
Okay catch up tomorrow.
19 @ Puma:
Be afraid of the Bulls… be very afraid….
It’s lekker to be a Bull!
Cheers bud
Saturday will be just blue, no horns though
😀
