Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat against South Africa. After a 30-minute delay due to a wet outfield, Dinesh Chandimal chose to bat in cloudy Colombo at the R Premadasa Stadium.
Rain interrupted play again with the Sri Lankan score on 223 / 9 after 49.2 overs.
South Africa eventually came in to bat, with the game reduced to 29 overs and needing 176 to win.
From about 11 overs gone, South Africa started falling behind the par score in terms of a Duckworth / Lewis calculation and eventually the rain stopped play again after 21 overs, with the covers coming on.
All further play was called off and Sri Lanka was declared the winner by 17 runs.
Sri Lanka 223 / 9 (49.2 overs)
South Africa 104 / 5 (21 overs, target 122)
Sri Lanka won by 17 runs (D/L method)

Good to see # back from injury to shore up the top order. Still not convinced about our bowling attack – Morkel carrying the bowling attack firmly on his shoulders imo
McLarens first ball of the power play is on review for an LBW
….and Given Thirimanne gone. LBW off McLaren for 13. SL 143/5
SA looking so much better in this match, McLaren’s economy rate where it should be, giving Morkel the help he requires. However, Morris and Phangiso – the ‘future’ of SA cricket, not faring so well, going at 4.6 and 5.14 respectively.
# takes a huge tumble and does his knee in, and the heavens open up in sympathy. Players off the field and covers on. SL 181/6 after 43 overs.
Still Raining. SL 223/7 after 49.2 overs
Hello at least Sri Lanka not running away with this one like they did the other day
Hey there JFK your latest post must have gone up as I was getting logged in not too many runs to get then, hope you all doing good
@ Bullscot:No, just the rain running away with it at the moment! They have decided to take the innings break – lets hope the rain lets up. Still some very indifferent bowling going on. One things sure and certain, McLaren isn’t a death bowler!
That’s just my luck we leave on Thursday and Aus start a 3 day game at Hove against Sussex on Friday
@ Just For Kicks:
is Kleinveldt injured if not why is he not getting a chance to have an extended run in the team?
Time to will check score later
The Game has been reduced to 29 Overs due to the rain delay.
SA lost their 1st wicket in the 1st over… 7 / 1
SA now 11 / 1 after 2 overs.
They need to get to a target of 176, which is quite a steep ask!
SA 30 / 1 after 5 overs
Aggenee, Duminy gone.
SA 39 / 2 after 6.1 overs
Abeltjie de Villiers sal nou ‘n Kapteinsbeurt MOET speel!
Peterson goes, eishh
O flok…. another one bites the dust… SA 55 / 3 after 9.4 overs
Petersen gone.

17 @ Just For Kicks:
Hello Mr Cumbria!
2 Affies guys at the wicket… can Pretoria save the day… AGAIN?
With Amla unlikely to bat, it is up to these 2. after that, the cupboards pretty bare!
Outfield is super slow
Review… eish….. close one I think
SA 67 / 4 after 12.1 overs
AB de Villiers OUT!
Nou wat de flok het AB daar gedoen?
…. and Faf perishes too….
SA 69 / 5 after 13.4 overs
SA 101 / 5 after 20.3 overs… 20 runs behind D/L par score… and the drizzle is coming down strongly
Certainly looks like another loss to SA
Covers coming on… not good
Rain just getting heavier….
Do not think we’ll see more play
