In other news, Chris Froome, has effectively won the Tour de France. Only the ride in to Paris tomorrow, and that is just a formality, except for the sprinters.
He has ridden an incredible race, having to fend off wave after wave of attack, sometimes with absolutely no help from his Sky team, who had faded badly at times. A well deserved winner, with enough South African in him to make us all proud.
Special mention to Daryl Impey, our very own, who won a stage – a first time a South African has ever done it, and even managed to hold on to it for a couple of days!
Watch out for this young Nairo Quintana though, he is the next winner of the TdF. Watch this space.
Finally, Australia get a wicket. Smith the hero! Bell the victim, caught Rogers for 74.
The England side also have a 500+ lead now. Eng 287/5
Joe Root gets 150. Good job.
As the last ball of the day is bowled, Joe Root can consider it a good day at the office. No side batting last at Lords has ever come close to getting this score (England 566 runs ahead at stumps), all England have to do now over the next 2 days is bag 10 wickets, and the game is theirs.
End of Day 3. England 333/5
Till tomorrow
@ Just For Kicks:
GO ENGLAND moer the convicts
But lets watch the Cheetahs doing it first
An Ossie (also spelled Aussie)is a male animal with part of its manhood removed. Currently they play cricket like real ossies.
And if you can believe the Mickey mouse these ossies fight amongst themselves as everything is intact.
@ dWeePer:It’s certainly not a happy camp, and the falseness and tension of Watson and Clarke at the start of the match was clearly there for all to see. Boof will be no help what so ever, either!!!!!! Will be telling them to stop being such bunch of pansies – how DO you tell a pansy not to be a pansy!
Game underway, and not much to say, other than we’re just waiting for Cooke to declare, and Root to get his double ton
First wicket down as Bairstow nicks Harris through to Haddin for 20. Eng 344/6. 577 ahead
So, Root goes, and Cook signals time for his batsmen. Must say, that was a complete waste of time! Batsmen weren’t supporting Root and just rotating strike. Just seemed to be going for glory, and thus forced Root to do the same, causing him to move away from his normal game and go big, causing him to hole out. Dumbass play in my book.
But now at least we will see some cricket as the Poms try to bowl the Aussies into oblivion.
Eng 349/7 decl.
Players back out. Anderson has the new ball, and Watson, who really needs a score is facing the first ball
Big appeal for LBW from Anderson to Watson, and Watson walks. First wicket down, and he was without doubt the biggest danger. First objective accomplished, mission well on track. Aus 24/1 – req 559 to win
Rogers gone – leaving a Swann straighty – bowled for 6. Has the procession begun? Aus 32/2. 551 req
Lunch Day 4. Aus 48/3. 535 req to win
Captain gone, up-Root ed
134/4 (47.2 ov)
Australia require another 449 runs with 6 wickets remaining
At last……when nothing was happening, and Clarke and Khuwaja are well set, and the game is going nowhere, Cook brings in hero Root, and he digs out Clarke second ball. Clarke fell for it hook, line and sinker! Caught Cook for 51. Aus 134/4. Req 448 to win
Could Root have Khawaja? Review
Not out. England have 1 review left. Aus 135/4
THis time Root does get Khawaja.Root is the new english Agar!!!!
Root to Khawaja, OUT
UT Khawaja c Anderson b Root 54 (133b 7×4 0x6) SR: 40.60
Khawaja caught Anderson, bowled Root for 54. Aus 135/5. Req 448 to win
@ Just For Kicks:
This game will end today at this rate , Aussies are now humiliated. Wonder how Arthur feels right now?
Very good bowling by Root
@ superBul: Yup, Aussie game all round in Tatters. I just wonder what affect Mickey airing his dirty laundry all over the media will have on them. Personally, I would have liked him to have kept quiet
Just shows how the cycle goes in cricket. Remember the West Indies, then Australia owned the game for 20 years, now it looks like the batton has been passed onto England for the time being.
Smith reviews as he ‘nicks’ Bresnan through to keeper. Looks good though…..and Smith gone. Aus 136/6. Req 447 to win
Another on bites the dust, boem , boem , boem
Mickey mouse owes the ossies nothing. Please keep on talking. 5-0 is in sight.
@ Just For Kicks:
At the moment SA dservedly is the top team, but if Kallis, Smith and Boucher(gone already) leave they might find themself in the same boat as WI and AUS
@ superBul: I must admit, I thought SA were the top team, but not so sure now. Prove me wrong. How long will Kallis and Smith continue? I don’t think AB is Captains material, our bowlers seem decimated, and we have a good, but untried new coach. I am just not so sure. England are settled. They have a young team, and are on top of their game with a very good set up and coach. For me, they edge it at the moment.
