Former Varsity Cup-winning Maties head coach and a current member of SARU’s High Performance Mobi-unit, Chean Roux, has been added to the Springbok Team Management in the role of Performance Analyst.
Roux, who in his playing days represented the DHL Stormers, Western Province, Eastern Province and the Boland Cavaliers, joined the Springboks in Durban where they are preparing for Saturday’s opening Test of the Castle Lager Incoming Series against Italy at Growthpoint Kings Park.
Roux will oversee the the Springboks’ match analysis, the measuring of performances on the training field, as well as establishing contact with referees in the build-up to all Test matches, in conjunction with Andre Watson (SARU GM: Referees) and Rassie Erasmus (SARU GM: High Performance).
“One of our aims for this season is to make crucial improvements in all areas and Chean’s involvement will ensure just that,” said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.
“Our paths first crossed when he still played for the Stormers and I was the assistant coach more than a decade ago and since day one I’ve always admired his passion and commitment to the game.
“To succeed at the top, it’s all about making vital improvements in key areas of the game and I really feel Chean’s innovative involvement will give us the edge at Tests.”
Roux will travel with the Springboks while they are in competition, but will still fulfil his duties as part of SARU’s Mobi-unit, alongside current consultants Louis Koen and Pieter de Villiers, when the national squad is not together.
He was an excellent coach for the Maties.
Good news!!!! We need a strong and solid coaching team
