Yes I know he will, but for the Super Rugby next year it wont be him. He has too many other commitments. Still with Sarries and also has a Dr’s practice in Cape Town that he goes to all the time. So his time will be divided between: Durban, Cape Town and London. He will have to have a head coach to control things in Durbs.

Well, they must get somebody who can sort the conditioning out, this has been the Sharks downfall for 2 years running now

I’m leaving this thread for the Bokke thread… will sit back for about half an hour or so, just relax and drink seriously… hehehe

I personally don’t think it was the conditioning. The players were well conditioned. Some of those injuries were freak injuries and just the way it goes with rugby. Only player that looked not conditioned was Fransie. Then he came back in January well over the weight he should have been at. When he did finally start playing some terrific rugby he got injured and he was down to his best weight when we were playing against Landers. He was very, very good in that game also playing out of position at 13.

Freak Accidents don’t happens in 10’s, and more occasions.

A lot of the injuries attributed to poor conditioning…. Same with the Stormers.

Bulls and Cheetahs much better managed against injuries and when injuries occured

Could be, just that we were conditioned well this year. The injuries were all mostly freak injuries. Broken arm is has nothing to do with conditioning. Same as Goosen picking up a horrific injury at Cheetahs it was a freak injury. Most of ours at the Sharks were mostly freak. Happens. Just happens some get more injuries than others. Lions had most the injuries last year. Just too much rugby being played as well. We need much bigger squads. Bulls have been lucky with injuries this year. Just look at Vermaak on the weekend that was nothing to do with conditioning more just unlucky to pick up that injury.

    127 @ Puma:
I personally think it’s a combination of factors… conditioning, pre-season routine and structure, the type of game plan or pattern that a team plays or prefers which might be more condusive to injuries occurring, carrying perrenially injured players (Sharks have quite a number of these), managing players coming back from injury, luck, coaching style and coaching personnel, expectations, Log position, motivation.

I don’t think there is one blanket excuse or preventative measure.

What one must strive for is to cover as many of the above bases as possible!
