Chiefs continue roll to stay top
by Gavin Rich 21 April 2012, 16:54
The Chiefs continued their winning roll by beating the Sharks 18-12 in a closely fought Super Rugby match at Mr Price Kings Park in Durban on Saturday.
So you are in for a lot of slipping and spilling, look at the date above, there is at least another 7 weeks of humidity left. And if you had so much rain like we had here it might even go on till the end of May.
@ Puma:
You are at least right about last year , according to the Supersport match report-
The Chiefs looked to be taking control of the game at that stage, but their attempts to put the likes of Williams through the gaps were thwarted by a combination of the abrasive Sharks defence and the slippery film of moisture around the ball on what was a humid night in Durban. Both teams made a lot of handling errors and they contributed to the game not being quite the spectacle that might have been hoped for.

Absolutely Super and that game was in April. The worst humidity is Jan, Feb and March. In April it can still be humid but tends to get slightly better, but even in April it can spoil a game. The humidity is a killer to play in. Probably the worst conditions of all.
SBW had his worst game that I ever saw him play in that night. Kept dropping the ball the whole night, which is something you just about never see with him. It was a low scoring game that as well.

I am right though. 😉

I said from when we got the draw for S15 that Sharks draw was not as great as some think, as we were going to be playing in the humid condtions in those months at the tank and we probably not going to be getting our bonus points because of the condtions we will have to play in. Of course if you play much weaker side than yourself then the 4 tries could come in humid conditions, but NO way if you playing a top team, both will play it very tight to avoid the handling errors that come with the humidity.
It was better last year for Sharks to tour early and play later in Durban as the humidity was getting less each month. Also we toured to New Zealand in far better conditions touring early as oppose to going there late when their rain and cold months are coming.
I here seem to the be only one that has always spoke about the humidity and night games and also when coastal teams have to play at altitude. Something I always mention. So nothing new coming from me…..hahahaha.
The game, although played in a near test-match atmosphere on the field, won’t be remembered as a classic because it was too much of a kick-a-thon for that.
@ Puma:
but still not the type of excuse any NZ supporter will use
They dont moan about humidity, they just pick up the ball and score …

Good Night Super. Good to catch up and chat again. I am off to bed.
Before I go, the cricket was a disappointement. Just watched the high lights. Why do we not play with our very best in other forms of cricket? It seems only in the tests we select our very best?
Well for now I only watch test cricket not really bothered with the other forms right now until we select our best, then I may take a bit of notice of the 50 overs and 20/20 game.

Super,
In NZ you play in the wet conditions THEY don’t have humidity like we get in Durban NEVER do they have humidity like we have it. Brisbane gets high humidity and even then not as high as we have in Durban.
Rain and humidity is a huge difference. You can still control the ball in rain if it is humid it is like one has put oil all over the ball and remember your skin is just as slippery, so players can slip tackles as well. Worst conditions to play in. Just about EVERY team that plays us here in Feb, March and April moan about the humidity. It is tough to play in and we have NO choice but to play in it. We only tour in April so it will be tough. Then we head to NZ when their rain and cold weather has started. Better for Sharks to travel early like last year far better to miss the humid months of Durban.
Okay Super I am off to bed. Had a very late night last night and we been out the whole day as well.
Good night my friend. Good chatting as always.

I watch the high lights Super and was really very disappointed. I don’t follow that form of cricket much these days but I still want our boys to win. The only way is to select the best players like we do in the tests. As you can see we are almost unbeatable in the tests because of that. So proud of our cricket test team.
Now finally am out of here. Cheers Super and good luck to your Bulls on their away tour. I wish them well.
