I don’t understand this at all. Will have to go and read on Sports24

    Back in a minute.

Okay just read on Sports24 Stegmann is out with a ankle injury.

Not great news as Brumbies has G. Smith who is playing some fantastic rugby right now. Will J. Mogg be back for the Brumbies for this game or is he out injured? Think he was training with the Brumbies last week then they left him out on the day. So might still have a injury. He is pure class and they will miss him again if he is not there.

So who you think will start? Arno Botha will probably start I think. Rate him, though he plays blindside does he not?

Eish, G. Smith still top quality after all these years. Think this could be a game you needed Stegmann.

  • 6

Loosie probably: Spies, Botha and Potgieter.

Their number 8 is a massive, have to stop him. Bloody good 8 as well. Think Arno will start, he is a quality player.

    5 @ Puma:
    Difficult call.

When Stegmann was not available due to injury, the Bulls loosies were unbalanced and absolutely missed a fetcher, with the ground ball situations a real problem. I Would have wanted and would have started with Jean Cook at openside but there’s not even a feint chance of that.

The trio will probably be Dewald Potgieter, Arno Botha and Pierre Spies, with Jacques Potgieter on the bench…. or with Arno on the bench and Jacques Potgieter at No 7.

Arno Botha plays blindside and No 8… and is not your typical fetcher – great No 7 or No 8 though.

For that reason I would also start with Willie Wepener at hooker… he’s been better than Chiliboy in the loose and his workrate is higher on the ball.

I predict a Bulls loss though for the weekend.

    7 @ grootblousmile:
That is the loose trio I mentioned above. The Potgieter I have up there is Dewald. Think those players will start. Spies, Arno and D. Potgieter. Pity you lost Stegmann for this game.

They will start with Chiliboy though. Well I think Bulls will.

Brumbies will be tired though. That might help the Bulls. They had a very hard game against the Stormers. Travelling that way as well is tough. Bulls should have targeted the Reds. They were there for the taking. They almost got there in the end just not to be. Should not have messed about with 9 changes, that was too much. Remember years back when Sharks were in Oz Straeuli doing something like that. He changed about 9 in our team as well. Could have been more and we at that stage was on a winning streak to get hammered in that game. Just forget which team we played, but it was during our Oz tour. Crazy to make so many changes.

Pretoria – The Vodacom Bulls have called for two replacements for their last match of their Australasian tour against the Brumbies on Saturday.

Lock Wilhelm Steenkamp and loose forward Jean Cook will leave for Canberra on Tuesday to replace Flip van der Merwe and Grant Hattingh respectively.

Van der Merwe has not recovered from a chest muscle strain while a scan revealed a broken thumb for Hattingh.

The experienced Steenkamp has 52 Super Rugby caps under his belt, while Cook debuted for the Bulls against the Force earlier in the season, scoring a try in the process.

A final fitness call on Bjorn Basson and Deon Stegmann will be made on Wednesday. Basson still has trouble with an ankle and Stegmann will have to prove that he is over his hamstring strain

Bulls send two more players home. This from SuperSport

    lose another two players

    ——————————————————————————–

The Vodacom Bulls were dealt another blow on their already tough tour of the Antipodes when locks Flip van der Merwe and Grant Hattingh were sent home with injury.

Van der Merwe missed the loss against the Reds with a chest injury, but it was hoped that he would recover in time for Saturday’s final Vodacom Super Rugby tour match against the Brumbies in Canberra.

Hattingh, who was one of the few players to have a great game in Brisbane, broke his thumb and will return home to have a scan to determine the extent of the damage.

The Bulls have announced that Emerging Bok Wilhelm Steenkamp will fly out to Australia and he will be joined by loose forward Jean Cook for the team’s last game. Both have been impressive in their matches for the Vodacom Cup team and will add a lot of value to the Bulls team.

However, the loss of two locks severely limits the Bulls’ options going into the last game, where it is expected that a number of changes will be made again to the squad, including a return for Bok lock Juandre Kruger.

With no recognised No 4 lock beyond young SA under-20 lock Paul Willemse in the group, it is likely to be a straight choice between him and Steenkamp for the other lock position, with Arno Botha likely to return to the starting line-up for the injured Deon Stegmann.

Stegmann has been ruled out for five to ten days and unless there has been some disinformation coming from the Bulls camp, is not likely to be considered for this weekend’s match, meaning Cook may well come onto the bench as cover.

There should also be a return for Morne Steyn, after Louis Fouche’s indifferent form last week, while it is hoped that after several good performances, the Bulls may finally decide to give IRB Junior Player of the year 2012 Jan Serfontein the start he so richly deserves.

Gbs, Think you may be right. Doubt Bulls will beat the Brumbies now with more players out injured.

    9 @ Loosehead:

Right now does not sound good for the Bulls. The hamstring strains normally lingers for a long time. Also ready that Stegmann had a ankle injury on Sports24. I doubt that Stegmann will start. Well for now it does not seem so.

Flank Dewald Potgieter says the Bulls aren’t at school anymore – therefore the time for learning lessons is over.

After an impressive start to their Australasian tour – where they beat the Blues 28-21 in Auckland – the men from Pretoria have come unstuck badly in recent weeks, losing 41-19 to the Crusaders and 23-18 to the Reds last week.

“We just cannot go on learning lessons every week. This isn’t school,” Potgieter told the Beeld website.

“It’s all good to learn lessons, but we’re doing that for two weeks now. First against the Crusaders and then against the Reds. After a while you have to show that you’ve understood what went wrong.

“If you want to win this competition, losses must be like a rude awakening. It should not be something you’re use to. And it must be such a rare occurrence that you do deep introspection to learn from your mistakes.”

And Potgieter, who last week made his return from a knee injury, is confident they can still make a success of their tour when they face Jake White’s Brumbies on Saturday.

“We knew from the start it was going to be a tough tour. We have to win at least two tour games which means Saturday will determine if the tour was a success or not.”

The Bulls will go into the match against the Brumbies without flank Deon Stegmann, who injured his ankle against the Reds. He will be out for at least a week.

Their clash in Canberra kicks off at 10:40 (SA time) on Saturday.
