After two stints off the replacement bench, a calf injury sustained by Frans Viljoen could see Heinrich Brüssow start a match for the first time since he injured his shoulder in September last year.
The Cheetahs who have an opportunity to achieve a hat-trick of wins overseas, also achieved another milestone, by winning back-to-back matches on their overseas tour for the first time. They beat the Highlanders 36-19, in Invecagill, and the past weekend scraped home 27-26 against the Waratahs in Sydney. The significance of a hattrick of wins is evident, when one considers that hattricks of wins have been scarce for SA franchises, with the Stormers achieving it three times (2008, 2011 and 2012), Sharks once (2009), and Bulls once (2007). However the Stormers have been the only SA franchise to achieve a hattrick of wins on the road.
Brüssow’s likely return to the starting team, could see Seven’s Springbok Boom Prinsloo return on the bench. This still leaves the Cheetahs with a nice balance to their loose trio, though they will miss the physicality that Frans Viljoen brought. Trevor Nyakane is the only other injury concern (shoulder). Nyakane has been in good form, and made some telling hits in defence.
The Cheetahs will remain in Sydney, and finish the bulk of their preparations for their match against the Western Force in Perth, and will use their usual rest day (Thursday) as their travel day. A win in Perth, will see the Cheetahs return home with a minimum haul of 12 log points, which is also their best point return for an overseas leg of their campaign.
VRYSTAAAAAAAAAAAT!
Manne, gaan die Cheethas dit die beste oorsese toer nog maak?
Good luck to them, the Force are ripe for the taking IMO.
@ Gena_ZA:
No opponent can be underestimated, as the results the past weekend showed. That said the Cheetahs have a great opportunity to do so, and have had good continuity. They don’t lose much if anything with Brüssow starting. Lose a bit of grunt, but get a specialist fetcher in return, which could be a blessing in disguise, as the Force have Hodgsen, who is one of the better Aussie fetchers.
Coenie at LH is also arguably playing in what is his better prop position, rather than his learnership at TH. All in all, the Cheetahs will be tired, but pumped to win another match and achieve some milestones, knowing that they will be on the way home soon after.
Cheetahs by 5+
@ Cheetah4eva
I agree on all you said, hope Coenie is not blown up for a lot of penalties but changing sides might be good for all.
Historically teams struggle on the 2nd match and then have a lift for the 3rd one, may history repeats itself here
Have this deep desire to see Wille at 15, for the sake of the Cheetahs and potentially for SA rugby, he has the x-factor, vision and speed needed for that position.
@ Gena_ZA:
Yes Willie is hot, but the Cheetahs use him cleverly, as he moves around alot. Daniller is very solid at the back, even though he might not be as flashy as le Roux. When he runs from the back it usually takes at least two okes to stop him, and he then retains possession and gains meters.
When he doesn’t run his booming kicks downfield are demoralising. This way the Cheetahs can have both on the field.
There is talk on the blogs that Goosen has a fairly big knee injury. Anyone know anything about this?
GOOSEN OUT WITH A KNEE INJURY. Has to have another op. Eish! Feel for him, think he will be out for the season again.
Read that on Rugby365.
So if Lambie and Steyn don’t pick up any injuries those are our Bok Fhs this year. Keeping fingers crossed for both that they don’t pick up any injury. Lambie that tackles just about anything that moves is most likely one that could pick up a injury. He never misses a tackle goes in and even brings down the big forwards. Hope he stays injury free.
Springbok Johan Goosen will undergo surgery again, after injuring his knee in a freak training ground accident.
Cheetahs team manager Eugene van Wyk told this website in an interview from the team’s base in Sydney that Goosen slipped at training and damaged his cruciate ligaments.
He will return to South Africa on Thursday, when a decision will be made when he will go under the knife.
More to follow…

Fuck, this is so wrong!
Eish this poor lad’s carreer will be over before it’s really begun.
Not the first FH I’ve seen to have so much surgery early on. Unfortunately it takes a LOOOONNNNG time to regain the confidence in the afflicted area.
IE, the mental recovery can take longer than the physical one. A fact perhaps borne out by his tentative kicking early on in this SR comp’. Perhaps worried about the ankle?
Their goes the CFheethas season as well…
12 @ Scrumdown:
From what I read it looks like it is a similar injurty to what Bissie picked up. That would mean at least 9 months out. Shame man, feel for him.
Cheetahs chances have dropped for sure, they fell apart without him last year.
Should play Le Roux at fh now. He plays in the channel for Cheets plenty enough even if Goosen is there.
14 @ Puma:
making more typos than I have in my like on these blogs…hehehe.
inurty = injury
It’s really hard to replace a player of his caliber, good luck to the Cheetahs.
16 @ Stormersboy:
I would play Le Roux at fh for Cheetahs. Also he could suprise many there, though also his defence is not that great. Still think he is the best for Cheets to play there.
Riaan Smit will most likely play to keep the changes to a minimum
@ Puma:
You recon?
19 @ Stormersboy:
Yes I think Le Roux could play fh for Cheetahs. Well that is just might thoughts, doubt Naka will select him.
Cheetahs could very well come home with 3 wins on tour. Though the Force are getting better each week they play. Remember they almost beat the Bulls and they just beat the Reds this past weekend. They better now than at the start of this tourney.
Good luck to Cheetahs would like to see them come home with 3 wins.
