The Southern Kings have named all five of their foreign players in their final 35-man Super Rugby squad despite SARU’s ruling that they are only allowed two.

The Eastern Cape franchise, who will make their Super Rugby debut this year, have recruited Argentine Test players Tomas Leonardi and Nicolas Vergallo, Kiwi utility back Hadleigh Parkes, French hooker Virgile Lacombe and Kenyan forward Daniel Adongo, and have been in negotiations with SARU to allow all five of them to participate this season.
However, there has been no indication from the national body that they are ready to make an exception for the Kings, which makes the squad announcement released on Tuesday all the more intriguing as one side will have to budge in what appears to be something of a stand-off.

I see BG Uys isn’t in the 35 man squad?
Push that envelope Cheeky, push it.
Not a bad run on side.
No stars. Some players in the twilight years of their carreers, and very little depth.
Too much like the Lions SR squad of recent years, and I expect them to fare the same, unfortunately.
Why is Daniel Adongo being seen as a ‘foreign’ player, I know he is Kenyan and went away and played recently in New Zealand BUT he did spend some time before then with the Bulls (albeit not getting game time) and did he not also come through the Sharks nursery, so how many years had he spent playing in SA rugby. Was he listed as a foreign player for the Bulls? What about the likes of Zimbabwean born ‘Beast’ when does a player go from being a ‘foreign’ to a ‘local’ player?
@ Bullscot:
I would have thought after 3 years of unbroken residency. The same that allows you to qualify to play for a country.
Or has it changed to 5 years?
Kings lost by 27-30.
Take a photo of the scoreboard Cheeky&Son, this is the last of the closest scores of your season.
6 @ Pietman:
Whoop, whoop!
Goooooooo Kwas!
They going to put the numbers of the Kings on the front in the Super Rugby comp so that it looks like they are on the attack
