I am thrilled with the win against tough opponents in such testing conditions Sharks coach John Plumtree admitted after his team’s 29-22 victory over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein. “We just had to get the win, even if it was ugly he said.
He was quoted as saying “we were very nervous about this match as we did not get everything out of our pre-season games, the players are just very happy to start with the win which will without doubt give them confidence going forward.”
“I was concerned about our ability to attack and defend for long periods. We were pretty knackered in the second half and I hope we will be better off when we play the Stormers in round two. There is lots of work to do.”
One could see both teams were rusty and so it is understandable that it was not the perfect game by any means and as the game ebbed and flowed. It showed that both teams had a lot to work on before their next encounters. ”The Sharks will face the Stormers in their next match so hard work awaits us he said.”
“We were pretty inaccurate and sloppy at the breakdown in the first half and we didn’t keep them under pressure which was pretty frustrating because it is such an important area. We also coughed up possession when we should have been getting points and that was the message at half-time – to keep the ball and we would be all right.”
Coach Plumtree had lots of praise for Vodacom Man of the Match, Pat Lambie, who delivered a faultless display of kicking, converting all seven attempts at goal and marshalling general play with a mix of tactical kicking and a good running and passing game.
“I thought he was outstanding, in his kicking at posts and in his long kicking game,” said The Sharks coach. “He did everything right in this game and he is benefiting from having experienced guys alongside him, JP on his inside and Frans outside him. He is definitely on track and he’s going to get better and better.”
He also had words of praise for the players who came off the bench and contributed at a time when The Sharks were under a lot of pressure. “The fresh legs at the end made a huge impact. Meyer Bosman made one try-saving tackle, Jean Deysel did some really big things as did Pieter-Steph du Toit. The bench was important and I thought our scrum was outstanding.”
“The lineout was also pretty good. The two hookers have worked hard with Franco van der Merwe.”
The good news on the injury front was that there were no concerns to come out of the game. “There were a couple of hard knocks and bruises and Lwazi Mvovo had to come off but everyone should be ready next weekend.”
He also praised the Cheetahs for their fighting spirit and coming close to winning the game after being down 21-5. ”I was getting ready to prepare for a losing speech”, he said. “There is no doubt the Cheetahs will be winning many games this season.”

Ja, but he cost you big in the first half boet. He is a class fh but a maverick type and he is either super brilliant or does some very daft mistakes, similar to Cooper sometimes. I still rate Goosen highly though.

most definitely! Look at how he changed Elton Jantjies game. Sure on Friday night he didnt land one of his kicks, but i think he can be forgiven after what he has been through the last few weeks.
i personally dont agree with GBS in that EJ is going to stay a distant fifth…after a few more game it will be him and Lambie at the top.
Morne Steyn kicks 20points and all of a sudden he is the number one 10 in the country….i dont think that is a fair statement as he hasn’t played against the like of Carter, Cruden, Cooper, et al.
Only then shall we see how good a 10 he is.

net so bietjie under coocked gewees 4 maande af doen dit maar

Woahhhhhhhhh slow down there cowboy lol, Lambies has been very good before Carlos came to the Sharks, he missed no kick in the Boks vs Eng, the CC final and semi final as well as the match vs the Cheetahs, now Carlos has only been there a few weeks 😉 he missed one kick against the Irish and 1 against the Scotts.

I answered you on the Stormers thread about this I totally agree that Elton will come right. I rate him as well and that was not the Elton we have seen in the past on Friday. He is WAY WAY better than that. Just so much has happened in his life the past few months. He will come right that is for sure. Too much class not too. AC will play him again this week and the next and the next. I don’t see him dropping him at all. He will come right.
Carlos is pure class he got Elton playing like a ‘Super Star’ at one stage and he has not forgotten what Carol has taught him. Lambie too will benefit hugely with Carlos working with him this season. He will get even better than he is now. Just keeping my fingers crossed no injuries to our Sharks FH this season if he stays injury free we will see just how good he is. He is naturally gifted player and with Carlos there well he could become on of our best ever. Time will tell just have to wait and see. Carlos will only come when needed Plum said for the rest of the season a week here and a week there. On a consulting basis I think.

LOL – what can i say, im a huge Carlos Spencer fan
33 @ smallies:
I know Smallies. He will slowly get his form back.
Good luck to your Cheetahs on their away tour boet.
@ Puma:
All Hail King Carlos lol
@ fayaaz:
It is now KING LAMBIE !!!
38 @ fayaaz:
I am with you on the Carlos. Was a superb fh and one of the best ever for the Blues and ABs at one stage.
Look I am with Sharky here, Lambie has always been a top class fh, just with Carlos there he can fine tune him to become one of the best ever. Carlos has the dream player to work with in Lambie I think. Just wish he was with Sharks for the whole season on a permanent basis rather than a consulting. Still good to have him there.

hehehehe.
40 @ Puma:
im also with Sharky – im a huge Lambie fan (according to me he is the best 10 in the country).
I just hope that in the Bok setup he is able to use what he learnt instead of just being another Morne.
43 @ Sharks_forever:
Okay back to the rugby.
How you see us going on Saturday? Night game, damn hate these night games in the humidity.
Hope to see the same team start this week. Hope Mvovo is okay though.

psssh…general se voet. he is just a kicker. nothing more and nothing less
45 @ fayaaz:
Yip I think he is the best we have as well. None other has his calmness. That for me is a huge factor.
I also hope he does not have to play the Meyer type game plan either, otherwise we may as well have Morne then. Think Meyer will bring more to our game plan this year, well hoping as Lambie could offer so much more if he is allowed to play his natural game, but then the team need to also play with more ball in hand.
Also another thing is we know that Fransie will play at inside centre now with Lambie playing with him all season that is a very good thing fo the Boks as well.
We just have to see how the Super Rugby season goes as there will be plenty injuries come the end of this tourney as is normal. So keeping that in mind we have to see who is left standing so to speak for Bok selection end of this tourney.
net om te bewys dat ek nie sooooo een oog is soos baie mense beweer nie my toekomstige backline vir die bokke
9 Reinach Grey

Looks like Bulls have lost some players for this weekend.
Then think the players they have they will still beat the Force.

Bulls hit by triple injury blow
2013-02-25 14:26
Pretoria – The Bulls will have to make three injury enforced changes for their match against the Western Force on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 17:05.
According to the Blue Bulls’ website, Dewald Potgieter (knee, 3 to 4 weeks), JJ Engelbrecht (hip flexor, 10 days) and Deon Stegmann (hamstring, 10 days) are all out of the Loftus Versfeld clash due to injuries sustained against the Stormers last weekend.
48 @ Puma:
at the end of the day it will all come down to player management i think
@ Puma:
en dan is daar mense op hierdie site wat beweer goosen is injurie prone.hel ek wonder of potgieter al meer as 5 games die laaste twee jaar gespeel het, talk about easy money

Very true agree.
56 @ Puma:
dar = daar
Oh ye Lambie preachers….
One would swear the boy is made of gold dust. Flok, julle suig amper almal gelyk die outjie se lollie.
Lambie was good on the weekend, but don’t get too far ahead of yourselves… he was maar net Ok in a Bok jersey, nothing special. You Tjarkies revere Lambchops, just like the freegin Cheetahs supporters revere Goose… are they the best thing since sliced bread?
Elton Jantjies started with a shocker of a match, but the kid will come right…. he’ll improve and fit in with the Stormers eventually.
Tjarkies, stop bragging about Lambie and how bloody awesome your whole team is… and just go beat the bloody Stormers on the weekend… OK?
