England (9) 17 / 13 (10) France (57 min)
Ping pong here, as England now get a kickable penalty
…..but Farrell hooks it badly
Farrell in trouble. Looks like a hammy. He must come off
Toby Flood takes over. It hasn’t been Farrells day, lets hope this change makes a difference.
France take a quick tap penalty, and gain some ground, and advantage for another penalty. Advantage over. England get off lightly
France still in the driving seat, throwing the ball around with gay abandon now. Sublime to see them in this form.
Englands scramble defence going into hyper-drive to stop the Frenchies from going over.
England in possession again. Tuilagi doing well. Over the line, but the French dot it down for a 22
Great interception by Robshaw
England on the front foot now
Just into touch. Advantage swings back to France
Theres nothing pretty about this English game. They’re winning through sheer strength.
Claasens makes his debut for France
Thats better from England. The substitutes from both sides making the difference. England look stronger, France look suspiciously weaker
England with a kickable penalty. Toby Flood steps up
Over.
England (9) 20 / 13 (10) France (73 min)
Michalak throws a pass to no one. England back on attack. They look a different team now. So much better.
France’s discipline gone to pot now. Another kickable penalty, as England simply pile on the pressure
Over.
England (9) 23 / 13 (10) France (76 min)
Robshaw named MOM. Deservedly. The work horse tonight, thats for sure.
DAn Cole gets a yellow card, but only a minute left
France trying hard, but being driven back in every tackle
…..And it all ends in handbags. Sad end to a real roller-coaster of a match. 1st half France, but a powerful 2nd half to England
When Michalak is good, he is special. When he is bad, he is simply horrendous. And tonight, he was that, I am afraid.
Good grinding win see’s England retain their place on the top of the log, and their Grand Slam hope alive.
Tomorrow sees the Might Scots take on their Celtic rivals from across the puddle. Till then, I bid you au revior.
Big thumbs up to you JFK for keeping the thread going through the England France game, sorry wasn’t able to join in was just too much going on this side, managed to catch the game on TV for short spells in between it all, can’t see anyone stopping England from getting the title and Grand Slam, although there will be concern about Farrell’s injury – commentator mentioned he thought a possible groin injury, you could see Farrell wincing just after that missed penalty. Interesting the two front runners for Lions flyhalf are both out injured now with Farrell and Sexton out – not sure though for how long.
Kickoff for Scotland v Ireland at 1400 UK time, 1600 SA time this afternoon GO SCOTLAND!
148 @ Bullscot:
Thanks for those time changes…. I changed the Article accordingly
@ Bullscot: Pleasure. Really enjoyable match to watch as advantage moved from one team to the other. France certainly upped their game for this clash, and before the substitutions, made most of the running. England though, with their big, powerful team, although looking at 6’s and 7’s for most of the first half, absorbed the pressure well. Once the French tired – and they did, badly – the substitutions were made. Lancaster played his hand like a chess master, and set about his own substitutions, and that made the difference. The poms took control, and never looked back.
As for Farrell, he never looked happy at any stage. The French certainly set out to annoy him, and Francois Trinh-Duc and Morgan Parra did exactly that, with aplomb. He never settled, and England certainly looked a different team when the more mature Toby Flood came on. It was Farrell’s first real challenge, and he will learn, and become the better for it. I hope his injury isn’t too bad. I agree, it looked more like a groin, but I had already written Hamstring, and couldn’t be bothered to change it!
