Despite their loss to Munster at Thomond Park last Saturday, Ulster remain clear at the top of the Pro12 table as we start the New Year.
Ulster have a nine-point lead over second placed Scarlets, who they welcome to Ravenhill on Friday.

That is just one of four games on Friday, two in Scotland and one in Wales, as the teams leave behind the festive local derbies and once more take to the road.
Edinburgh welcome Irish opposition in the form of European champions Leinster, whilst fourth placed Glasgow Warriors face Benetton Treviso at Scotstoun knowing the Italians defeated them on their last trip to the city.
The fourth game on Friday sees the second Italian outfit, Zebre, who are still looking for their first win in the tournament, take on champions Ospreys at Liberty Stadium.
There are two games on Saturday, both in Ireland, for Connacht and Munster.
Newport Gwent Dragons travel to Galway to take on Connacht, while the round wraps up in Cork on Saturday when Cardiff Blues will be hoping to improve on their record when travelling to play Munster as they have not won in the province since 2007.
Ulster stand-in captain Chris Henry admits he is relishing the chance to get 2013 going with a bang as the Pro12 leaders bid for glory on two fronts.
Henry’s troops return to Pro12 action on Friday, having lost their first league match of the season – against Munster in the absence of a number of first-team players.
On Friday they will look to get back to winning ways against the second-placed Scarlets before looking to reach the knock-out stages of the European Cup.
And Henry cannot wait for this weekend’s top-of-the-table clash.
“It couldn’t be any better at the start of the new year, first against second,” Henry told the Irish Independent.
“I suppose it will be a good time to meet them after their big defeat against the Ospreys and they will be hurting. They have had a bit of a dip the way we had ours in Italy.
“They will be desperate to get the points and obviously we will be desperate to keep or extend the nine-point lead at the top.
“We have to try and get a bit of momentum. We are back at Ravenhill, the crowd will be out in force, and there has been a lot of talk of where we are at present, and the players are loving it.
“But we need to win the game at home and that will lead us – with a positive frame of mind – into Europe. But first things first.
“Last week, even in defeat, we had more players putting their hands up wanting to be in the squad, so I just hope we get it together and produce a good performance.
“The two games following – against Glasgow and Castres in Europe – are also massive and there will be chances for people to claim a place.”
We look at all the Round 13 action!

Leinster starting to take Edinburgh apart, two tries in a short time takes it from 3 all to Leinster 17 – 3 Edinburgh, first try was a penalty try to Leinster and also a yellow card against David Denton who until then had been doing some stirling work tackling all over the park, think the offense was either him joining maul from side or collapsing it with Leinster not far from the line. Almost halftime now.
About time a penalty against Leinster for player flying over ruck and taking Edinburgh player without the ball,
Leinster 17 – 6 Edinburgh as Laidlaw slots a straight one from between halfway and 10m line – halftime
Scores from elsewhere (kick off an hour and 20 minutes ago): Ulster 19 – 3 Scarlets, Ospreys 6 – 8 Zebre
Halftime in Glasgow : Glasgow 27 – 0 Treviso – 3 tries so far for Glasgow – DTH v/d Merwe, Stuart Hogg and Tommy Seymour – lets hope Glasgow don’t miss out on bonus point win for 3rd week in a row.
Ulster 26 – 3 Scarlets try in 56th minute by Nick Williams converted by Pienaar, who also converted their 1st try and has been succesfull with 4 penalties
Ospreys 9 – 8 Zebre – 66th penalty by Dan Biggar – close game
2nd half just started in Glasgow, Ryan Wilson (last week’s man of the match) off and replaced by James Eddie
2nd half underway as Greig Laidlaw kicks off at Murrayfield, nice halftime intervie with Chris Paterson about his retirement from playing the game.
Denton should still be off the field for another four minutes
Leinster at it again when a ruck is formed one of their players shots from the back of the ruck and over the top and tackles the first Edinburgh player he can find even if that player doesn’t have the ball, IS THIS LEGAL?
Thats David Denton back on, lineout, with Leinster through in
Another substitute for Glasgow 45th minute Kellock off Ryder on – hope these are not all enforced through injury.
WP Nel is penalized at the scrum and Leinster find tough on Edinburgh 22
Phew Leinster blown up for crossing otherwise they would have had the try, Edinburgh will be relieved to find touch
Roddy Grant on for McInally who looks like he is getting treatment and now is walking gingerly off the field, Grant a lot smaller player so may get around the field quicker but could put Edinburgh at disadvantage otherwise
Laidlaw a few metres from his line finds touch and after winning the lineout they launch up and under and Visser crunches the Leinster player who caught the ball
Oh dear Visser hurt his arm as the Leinster 14 fell on it during that big tackle, Scott Johnson looking on looking pensive, hope this is not a bad one
Visser going off looks a bit dazed but not in too much pain so maybe he took a knock to the head as well in that tackle
Tim Visser is replaced by his younger brother Sep Visser, not seen him play before
Denton carrying the ball strongly sets up platform for Edinburgh to recycle through a few phases then Pier Francis slots a good drop kick – Edinburgh 9 – 17 Leinster 50th minute
55 minutes gone in Glasgow – Glasgow 27 – 7 Treviso – still no bonus point try for Glasgow
Play a bit open going from one teams half to the others scrum now Leinster ball
Great hustlling play by Laidlaw causes Leinster to knock on at back of scrum so now Edinburgh scrum
That was a strong scrum from Edinburgh who pass the ball well down the backline only for Sep Visser to knock it on receiving the ball out wide on left wing
Basilaia off Parker on – Edinburgh 55th minute
Edinburgh have to make one tackle after the next as Leinster attack relentlessly , play just inside Edinburgh half now
Looke like Matt Scott missed his tackle and Leinster through, try for Sexton
Yip Matt Scott bought the dummy and then Leinster had big overlap ball could have gone to a few players but Sexton it is who gets it and scores and kicks a super conversion ; Edinburgh 9 – Leinster 24, must be game over now for Edinburgh
Toner subbed off for Leinster
Leinster attcj agin just outside Edinburgh 22
