It is reported that Peter Grant may be available for the Stormers as early as 5 February.
Peter Grant could be available anywhere from the 5th of February to the 28th of February, depending on how his Japanese club Kobe Kobelco Steelers fare in the next few weeks.
Elton Jantjies is expected to run on as first choice fly-half in the warm up games on 2 & 9 February against the Cheetahs and Boland respectively.
With the likelihood that Peter will be available for the start of the season increasing, it will be interesting to see who Allister Coetzee favors at the all important No 10 position. Grant has been praised for his great accuracy in goal-kicking, but at the same time criticized for his inability to punt the ball decent distances and control the game effectively at fly-half. In the same vein, Elton Jantjies has also blown hot and cold this past season, at times looking like a deer in the headlights and at others looking like the possible future for SA at No 10.
What is encouraging is that the Stormers will have good depth at No 10 this year, in contrast to the 2011 season where they were forced to call up Earl Rose on standby after losing their first 6 choices at fly-half to injury.
It’s all coming together now!!!
@ Just For Kicks:
Here’s hoping! I wonder how Tiaan’s injury is doing? If he is fit and we have Deon as backup then our squad is 100%.
Just hope that Stormers will not mess Jantjies around. He is a far better flyhalf than Grant.
I hope Elton Jantjies is afforded the chance to settle in as Stormers flyhalf, accordingly this is not good news to me.
Agreed, Jantjes should be the no 1 fly-half for the Stormers and Grant be used on a rotational basis. They need to do porper player manageemnt and not get into the same fiasco as 2 years ago. This is where the coach fails, he tends to stick and overplay players for the excuse of continuity.
Peter Grant………….he has had all his talent coached out of him.
Jantjies will be No.1
@ grootblousmile:
I would prefer to see Jantjies start too, but I would also like Groom to get a shot at 9, which is unlikely. Unfortunate as his service is very quick.
New Zealand 159/3 with one ball to go in 34th over – Kane Williamson is not out on 95 off 97 balls
With AB de Villiers serving his suspension Faf du Plessis is captaining SA.
Kane Williamson’s just got his hundred off one hundred balls, NZ 165/3 in 35th over – looks like SA could be chasing a big score here unless they get Williamson soon with big hitting Brendon McCullum also there now.
“Nice stats today: Morne picks up his 100th wicket today. Franklin plays his 100th game today and Williamson gets his 100 off 100 balls at a strike rate of 100.”
NZ 218/7 after 43 overs Williamson still there on 118 off 117 deliveries, looks like a reason bowling effort from Tsotsobe 2/38 off his 10 overs.
New Zealand finish on 279/8 smashing 19 runs off the last over which was bowled by Morne Morkel, Kane Williamson ended on 145 not out off 136 balls hitting 17 fours and 1 six, Morne Morkel took 3 wickets but went for 71 runs off his 10 overs.
I see New Zealand got 279 / 8 after their 50 overs…
Totally missed it that today was ODI No 2.
Will put a Thread up just now… just busy with some urgent stuff…
