Lions have lost 17 Super Rugby players… on loan, retired, overseas, bought by the Stormers…. yet they are holding the Super Rugby Cheetahs???
Try Rhule… TMO to decide if the last pass was forward
Lol it’s a fair ol scrap, but I am waiting until Naka shows his hand against the Bools before I get anxious. This is a typical 1st match scenario for the Cheetahs, Lions (most of them) have had a hit out against the Spetznaz.
Try awarded to Rhule
Cheetahs 12 / 7 Lions
Lions penalty, on the Staat 22… will it be a shot at goal
61 @ grootblousmile:
If you look at that way Lions are doing okay here. Cheetahs too have some of their top names out of this game today.
Boshoff misses again
Relegation game is for 27th of July. Just remember who all have Lions players they will not be playing Super Rugby that day as most have agreement to be back to play for Lions in that game. Expect the players that contracts had expired last year. Players on loan have to be back for Lions.
@ Puma:
Exhachary pooms, still way to early to get panicky. Players like Strauss, Coenie, Ferreira, Brüssow, Viljoen, vd Walt, Goosen, Sadie and le Roux will make amassive difference.
@ Puma:
expect should read except
67 @ Puma:
Yip… Lions are dominating up front, with a very inexperienced forwards pack.
Ross and Guy Cronje are woeful though, no impetus from there
@ Puma:
Most are playing for the Stormers (who are unlikely to make playoffs anyway) so their shouldn’t be any worries
70 @ Cheetah4eva:
Yip this is a warm up game for Cheetahs they have many top players out so can’t really take too much out of this game. Will see what they do against Bulls that will tell Sharks more about Cheetahs as we face each other in our first S15 game. Cheetahs with those players back will be a different team to what we are seeing here.

74 @ Puma:
One can NEVER read too much in warm-up games, but if the Cheetahs lose here it does not bode well for their depth, players who are supposed to be Super Rugby quality players… but not looking like it.
Lemoenetyd
Okay back a bit later.
@ Puma:
I am more interested in how the new chaps like Lood, de Klerk, Daniller Jnr, van Jaarsveld and Schoeman fit in.
@ grootblousmile:
Bwahahaaa, you trying to get under our skins, but we are wise to your shenanigans
As I recall in a similar warm up match, the Bools were trounced by the queens, and they went on to do fairly well in last years S15!
80 @ Cheetah4eva:
Where’s the depth you boasted about in the Squad Contenders Articles?
Halftime here, like we will have in Super Rugby, has been extended to 12 minutes
2 Nd Half On!
@ grootblousmile:
Lol it’s early days GBS, as I said earlier, best you worry about where you are going get enough props to compete at this level. I wouldn’t worry too much about depth yet, this is a warm up match, with players that have never played together.
Caylib, Torsten, de Klerk all new front row. Lood and Uys, all new lock partners.
Schoeman, Daniller and Boom, never played together. Does it start making sense?
van Zyl and Brummer never combined before. Ebersohn and nel never played together, so of course it will take time to gel, and to boot these are mostly back up players.
Staat with a lot of subs on
84 @ Cheetah4eva:
Lions are playing without their 17 Super Rugby players PLUS they are about 9 down from their strongest possible squad… you kidding me here?
Lions also featuring many new combinations, yet to gel… 9 changes from last week alone.
Seriously, even a second string Cheetahs side should have put them away well.
I picked the Cheetahs by 8 on Bru….
Cheetahs penalty, on the Lions 10m line… kick to touch it is
Staat with a maul from their lineout… 5m out
Advantage to the Staat…
Try Hennie Daniller
