New Zealand ALL OUT for 121 after 44.4 overs
Innings Break
New Zealand Asked and required to follow on!
Almost a wicket in the First over, 3rd ball, given out but the NZ Batsman asked for a review and the review was upheld
NZ 40 / 1 after 20.2 overs
They still trail by 364 runs
New Zealand could get 4 Innings in like the 1st one… and still trail… hehehe
Not a great test to watch really. Don’t enjoy it when one team dominates the other like this. Just seems no challenge at all. Also not good for Cricket to have such a weak New Zealand team. So few countries play the game we need all to be competitive against each other at this level. Do hope New Zealand come right with their cricket for that reason. Pakistan should pose a bigger challenge for Proteas the reason I am looking forward to that series coming up soon.
Now with the Sharks and Dolphins game was on tv today…. 🙂 Would be good fun to watch that one..hehe.
NZ 84/3
Probably be all over tomorrow.
Rory Kleinveld takes 2 wickets in 2 balls… on a hat trick… but no, he does not get a thrid!
NZ 84 / 4

Who knows could be all over today.
Sharks beat the Dolphins……
Looks like Franco Van Der Merwe was the hero out there today….

Sharks Blast the Win
Set a competitive target of 184 to win, The Sharks defeated the Sunfoil Dolphins by four wickets in the Pick n Pay Durban Challenge at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead, with the fans and Charity the biggest winners.
It took the Dolphins a while to warm up, but when they did, Khaya Zondo was particularly hard on Willem Alberts, putting on 16 runs in his second over (Alberts having conceded just four in his first).
The big hitting David Miller, fending off the fierce competitiveness of Jean Deysel, took 20 runs off one late over as the Dolphins looked to post a competitive total, one six hit out of the stadium.
Despite his size, Willem Alberts proved a handy fielder while Franco van der Merwe performed very well in his role as bowler, Tera Mtembu taking two wickets.
Smashing 60 runs in the last four overs allowed the Dolphins to post a handy score for The Sharks to chase. Divan van Wyk and Davis Miller piled on 74 runs between them (and an unbeaten partnership of 69 runs off 31 balls) which saw their team through to a good total (183/5), giving The Sharks 184 needed to win.
Jacques Botes and Tera Mtembu went about getting The Sharks off to a strong start, only for Mtembu to be well-caught with only one run to his name. This saw Pat Lambie come in and like last year, he showed great pedigree to put his team onto the front foot. But there were some major fireworks to come late in the game.
At 14 for two, The Sharks were in a spot of trouble, but Lambie and Riaan Viljoen put on a 50 run partnership (Lambie certainly the dominant one) before Viljoen and then Deysel (two runs) saw Willem Alberts introduced to the action. Alberts unfortunately didn’t last too long either, scoring one and going out caught behind off an attempted six. Lambie at this stage was on 49 after nine overs and well on his way to another half-century.
He reached his 50 with a four, but was out next ball, having scored 53 off 33 balls with 8 fours and a six.
Franco van der Merwe came in and from then there was only one side in it. He followed up his quality bowling withs ome massive batting, striking three fours early on for a strike rate of over 200. He struck a six to bring his total to 19 off just six balls (strike rate of better than 300!) Unexpectedly, Frans Steyn anchored the partnership well, rotating the strike to allow for the big hitting van der Merwe to hit six after glorious six.
David Miller bore the brunt, conceding 24 off just one over.
Steyn held his nerve while van der Merwe took the bowlers to the cleaners and despite the Dolphins’ attempts to limit the damage with some slightly faster bowling, he wasn’t to be stopped.
Getting into his stride he surpassed the batting prowess of all around him and has certainly endeared himself to his team-mates as well as fans as we look forward to his role with The Sharks this year.
A worthy Man of the Match, he closed the game out with a powerful six with three overs remaining as he finished off with wonderful stats of 84 runs off just 27 balls (a strike rate of 311). During his innings, he struck 6 fours and 8 sixes.
LIV Village and The Sunfoil Dolphins Cricket Development Programme will benefit from the proceeds of the game.
The score is now one win apiece after the Sunfoil Dolphins won this charity fixture last year which is sure to create many talking points in the coming week.
@ Puma:
Hiays Pooms, there goes my planned article lol
I was gonna do one, anyhow no biggy, was a great day at Kingsmead, I have great pics, Lambie was great again, but good grief Franco VD Merwe was hitting the ball miles,
Morning!
Hope the Blomme finish things quick today, have a heavy day here at work, so can’t concentrate on the cricket at all today.
@100 Sharky, Howzit my brudda, must have been great there. Good fun day out it seems. Almost went myself just the early rain prevented me from going thought it could come back later.
Just do a article on the cricket, you were there so tell us more! How was Franco? Heck reading that think he may have taken up the wrong sport…. He must have been brilliant to watch. Lambie was top class again it seems as well.
Pity these games are not on tv because they are playing for charity, would be great if more of us got to see it.
100 @ Sharks_forever:
Put up the pictures in your article. Want to see okay?
@ Puma:
What was even more interesting was my long chat with Grant Bashford.
104 @ Sharks_forever:
Okay that sounds interesting. Would like to know more about that chat.
104 @ Sharks_forever:
You know there was a time here on this site, whenever anyone went to a rugby game they took pictures while they were there and sent it straight from there for Rudi to put up here, so we could all see what was happening there. Remember Blue Bird doing it for us from the Millenium Stadium. And Treehugger sending us i photos of her monkeys she was looking after that day and another blogger just forget his name, sending us a photo of his cat, damn massive about the size of a cub lion almost……………..hahahahahaha. Anyhow what I am getting to is when we are at the games and others cant make it take photos while there send to Rudi then and there for us to see here. Gives us a feel of being there. Should have sent the pics from the cricket here yesterday. Think we can still do it, need to ask the ‘Big Boss’ here……………
106 @ Puma:
Not today, friend… bogged down properly with work here.
107 @ grootblousmile:
No problems never meant today, I meant that whoever goes to the games should send us some photos while there. Remember we used to do that here. Was also a unique thing here as no other site done that. So got the feel of the atmosphere at the stadium while we blogged here. We done it such a long time back, but we could do it again while blogging during the live games.
108 @ Puma:
Yes, we can do it, sometimes however, a live game is hectic, with little time except to blog and update the Live Scores.
In the days we did put up the Pictures, we were considerably more quiet as a website… but this website “machine” of ours has become a busy little thing, as you know we have the liveliest Live Game blogging out there… possibly in the whole RUGBY WORLD at present… and I see us getting even busier in 2013.
Let’s see how it goes, I will be quick to ask for pictures to be mailed to me or to be uploaded directly onto Rugby-Talk, by those who have Author rights.
NZ now on 190 / 5 after 80 overs
New ball is taken after 81 overs
NZ needs 205 to avoid losing by an Innings… only 5 wickets standing.
Can we wrap them up and win by an Innings?
106 @ Puma:
Hi ya Puma sounds like a good idea man, I remember in the past I took some pictures before and from the games with that same idea of yours and tried to send them, only problem was my technology let me down each time with my old mobile phone that has the handle attached to it that you need to turn to get it to work 🙂
Jeeez, 3 quick wickets with the New Ball
NZ 204 / 8
109 @ grootblousmile:
Agree we are definitely very busy here during the live games. Many that don’t blog here during the week do blog when the games are on. Just remember when it was a big game and whoever was going took photos while there. Remebmer a few years back during a Stormer and Bulls game at Newlands when someone sent photos during the game. Well times like that we should. Well if there is time.
114 @ grootblousmile:
Damn missed it busy in my study. Going to watch until the end now.
NZ 207 / 9 after 85.3 overs
Only 1 wicket needed now…
Phweeew… New Zealand are shit… flokkit!
117 @ grootblousmile:
Gosh thats a quick turn around, howzit GBS? Was just taking pic of the snow in response to Puma’s request and in that time all those wickets fall!
Game ALL OVER!
NZ all out for 211
SA win by an Innings and 193 runs and whitewash the Series by beating New Zealand 2 / 0!
