Top players litter each team, among them Raymond Rhule, England Sevens stalwart Ben Gollings, Sarel Pretorius, Derrick Minnie, Jongi Nokwe and Breyton Paulse.
A dozen sides, including representatives of the Blue Bulls, Cheetahs, Lions and Western Province, will vie for the biggest prize in Sevens rugby.
In an intriguing twist, a team bearing the famous Kaizer Chiefs football strip will also challenge the old order. Coached by Gcobani Bobo and managed by Makhaya Ntini, Chiefs’ members include Breyton Paulse and Adi Jacobs.
The first dozen matches will be broadcast on Friday.
Saturday’s play, beginning at 2pm, will culminate with the final at 6pm.

Presentation |
So, what do you guys think about this IPL Style Sevens tournament?
I’m not yet sure what to make of it, will be interesting to see how it goes and how much support it will garner at the ground.
Seems like most of the SA Franchises have opted for very young sides, whereas the Cheetahs have entered a very good team with current Super Rugby stars playing.
Will be interesting to see how the international element goes as well as the team from Kaizer Chiefs!
revisit the rules …. nice uhm article 😉

hope this is gonna work
ok, so ignore #3
So it is 11 minutes each half. Wonder how Kaizer Chiefs will play? See Sharks play them and WP.
Should be good fun this.
1 @ grootblousmile:
Think it will be great actually. Even though I am not totally into 7s rugby, will be a bit of fun this. Hope it catches on as it gives us something to watch this time of year, well rugby wise that is.
2 @ grootblousmile:
Cheetahs have to be favourites with those players. Quite a few played top class 7s as well. Was just about to say which poor team has to face Cheetahs and it is the Bulls……….. hehehehehehehe.
8 @ Puma:
Oh damn, we’ll have to shock them early…. hehehe
9 @ grootblousmile:
hehehe. Yip Bulls have a tough one early. 🙂
Jeez I am now really looking forward to this tourney. Could be that we have no rugby right now. Going to be fun win or lose doesn’t really matter.
George is the perfect place to hold it as well.
Very quite here gbs, time of year I know. Should bring back our music video thread think Sharky and I had two going somewhere and we had some good music on it. Really enjoyed the music thread.

Jeez never put that video on this thread. Put it up on the music thread….. 🙄
Anyhow it is party time, this 7’s is like a mini festival and about to start.
Okay get it posted that video a FEW days back before our music thread, not the one I posted today. Having a brain lapse here………………..
Hot day here today was going to play golf this morning but changed my mind. Too hot for me, will be blogging from my veranda again. Going to watch the start of this game then in for a quick swim, that will be the routine for today, swim and watch the rugby and blog here… 🙂
@ Ashley:
