The HSBC Sevens World Series was in South Africa this weekend, with the Cell C Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens tournament, the last Sevens tournament on the circuit for 2012.
New Zealand took the spoils after beating the South African Blitzbokke 12 / 5 in the Semi-final and thumping France 47 / 12 in the Final.
It was a better weekend for the men from South Africa though, getting through the pool stages unbeaten, also winning the Quarter final against the USA, but then stumbling against New Zealand, by only 7 points. South Africa demolished Argentina in the 3rd Place play-off, beating them by 35 / 0.
Pools:
Pool A: South Africa, Samoa, France, and Australia
Pool B: New Zealand, Fiji, Scotland and England
Pool C: Kenya, Wales, Argentina and Spain
Pool D: Portugal, Canada, the United States and Zimbabwe

OK, so the last 8 games of today will decide the Fixtures for tomorrow….
England 33 / 12 Scotland
Missed our game. Suppose 7s is like that, you blink you miss it……. 🙂 Had to go out and get some stuff for a braai later. Finally back, just in time to see Scotland getting beat by England…
Well done to our BlitzBokke so far today, played two won two…
This tournament is WASTED on PE.
Who the hell goes to PE in any case?
It should be held in either Deben or Slaapstad, in a weeks time.
SARU just wasting more money on taking rugby back to the myth that is EC rugby.
Argentina 21 / 14 Spain
69 @ Loosehead:
Oh, but you’re such a positive fella… hahahaha
.. but I agree, one needs a smaller cozy stadium, and George was just great for it.
The big stadium in PE just does not do it.
hello, am i too late too chat?
72 @ superBul:
Ahhhh, die boomBul is ook hier.
Hoe gaan dit met die groen vingers en die blou balle?
@ grootblousmile:
@ grootblousmile:
vingers stukkend gewerk en die res hang laag, hinderlaag
69 @ Loosehead:
Have to agree with you Loosie. There is just no atmosphere there in such a big stadium, unless it was almost full or at the very least 25 to 30 thousand there. There can’t be much in the stadium and they changed it to a Saturday to accomodate the supporters that work. Not sure to take it back to George or here in Durbs. Suere we have so many holiday makers here right now, but too hot and humid to have to play 7s in the heat of the day. Also would need a smaller stadium. Cape Town would do okay as you don’t get the humidity we do this time of year, well they do get humid weather but nothing like us here.
So where to from here? Stellenbosch? Where was the Junior world cup held in Cape Town? Could have it there as well. Cape Town weather all though hot this time of year does not experience the same type of humidity we have. Can’t imagine the players running in the humidity that we have right now, whether for 14 minutes or not.
Anyhow this tourney has to go back to a smaller stadium. Probably Cape Town with the influx of holiday makers. Like I said we have huge amounts of holiday makers this time of year, but our heat with the humidity might not be the ideal place to have it.
@ Sharks_forever:
Wat flokken LAG jy
Suere = sure
75 @ superBul:
Is julle Sondae ook oop?
Daai wêreld van jou kriewel seker nou al van die Suid-Afrikaanse vakansiegangers.
76 @ Puma:
Good grief, I repeated myself there over and over…………….LOL. Normal I suppose………… hehehe.
80 @ Puma:
Altzheimers is a bitch!
Could be many can only afford one day to go and the will rather choose tomorrow, being the quarters and finals of this tourney. Think we will see a fuller stadium tomorrow. So if they do keep it in PE. NO need to have it on a Saturday I suppose. As most watch on the day that counts probably.
@ superBul:
ek sal lag as ek wil
81 @ grootblousmile:
USA 21 / 17 Zimbabwe
Okay back a bit later.
What is the National Bird of Zimbabwe?
The Fly.
How do you know a plane comes from Zimbabwe?
