The HSBC Sevens World Series was in South Africa this weekend, with the Cell C Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens tournament, the last Sevens tournament on the circuit for 2012.

It was a better weekend for the men from South Africa though, getting through the pool stages unbeaten, also winning the Quarter final against the USA, but then stumbling against New Zealand, by only 7 points. South Africa demolished Argentina in the 3rd Place play-off, beating them by 35 / 0.

Really sad to see so many South Africans supporting New Zealand. It just does never seem right to me. Just never understand that ever. Maybe after next year this tourney should be played at Takkies, doubt very much anyone there will be supporting the All Blacks. This is on our home ground man, the players must feel dreadful to see their very own South Africans supporting the other side. Shameful actually.

    should read = Tukkies

Tuks stands a bit small… but I get the drift, hold it in a SA strongpoint as far as support is concerned

  • 304

Just too many embittered people in the Eastern Cape region to ever get my support… against ANYBODY!

Hello GBS sorry got busy for a bit here, just shows with 7s how quickly things move, turn your back on it for a wee while and the whole game is past. Arghh no thats a pity they lost, but sounds like NZ were deserved winners.

Small ground with only Bok supporters will be far better. Or just bring it to Loftus. It must be gut wrenching for the players to see their fellow South Africans supporting the otherside. Jeez this is now 2012 why do they still do that? Bring it up to the highveld after next year. That is the reason too that all the Bok games are in Joburg for the next 3 years against the ABs.

    306 @ Puma:
Quite frankly, fark those who cannot move on and embrace the new South Africa!

They are alienating South Africans even more against the regions where this type of thing happens….

  • 308

George was a great venue for the Sevens… and that’s an area in the Southern Cape which has largely moved with the times too

  • 309

France come back late… and it’s a draw… so extra time needs to be played

    307 @ grootblousmile:

It is sad really as that will never make us truly one as a country. I would never support another side over a Saffa side NOT ever even in Super Rugby. I always support our own. BUT the BOKS are all OURS! We should unite and stand behind our team TOGETHER. ONLY together will we build a strong nation. Divided we will fall. Have no idea what goes through a persons mind in this day and age to do that. I came back to South Africa in 1994 to be part of this beautiful country and that means with every person. We should be united together not divided like I saw today at PE in this game. Sad to see that.

Anyhow think this 7s should be moved up to the highveld that way we wont see much of that. Like I said above it must be gut wrenching for the players to see their very own supporting the otherside.

    First score wins the game…

    Hello again,
Have not read anything here at all, but Puma can i throw in something for you to chew on?

Off coursemany will take me on for this, but OK shoot from the hip , go for it.

Nationalism is DEAD, dead as a doornail. Look where South Africans ply their trade. So many of OUR boys are now playing for other countries. The latest big name is Richard Strauss, a true well bred Free State Boy.
The other side of this is that any Springbok team is now in fact the Coaches team, he picks whoever he feels will play his game. Do we necesarily agree? NO bleddie ways, just think how we lambasted Heynecke.

In our modern society we have the choice to support whoever we want to, we have lost our National pride or must i rather say we put our National pride away when we look at our pockets. Not only sportsmen, even some of our esteemed bloggers here.

So if i have the choice to shout for a good game of Rugby i will shout for it ,even if the AB,s are playing a great game. Just remember how i cheered England on when they played so brilliantly against the AB,s

So maybe some just support a good game of Rugby.

As far as I’m concerned, the Eastern Cape is now a different country… I’ll take my passport with the next time I travel through there

    Hehehehe

  • 314

hahahahahaha. Just looking out from my window here and see the Impala have had new ones, three brand spanking new ones, just came springing jumping into my garden and almost went into the pool!… 😯 now they with the rest and still running all over the golf course. The green must be a bit of mess but who cares….LOL. Think they so young must have been born very recently. They could not have been much higher than my knee….LOL. Just awesome to see.

Jeez we live in a beautiful country for sure.

France wins with a penalty…. phweeew

    318 @ grootblousmile:
Another place they could have the 7s is at Orlando Stadium. I BET there would be not one supporting the ABs there either. They all support the Boks on the highveld.

Remember the Bulls playing the Saders there and everyone there but everyone supported the Bulls there was not even ONE person supporting the Saders. The way it should be in our country. We should stand together. All of us.

  • 322

    Wow France finally makes it.

Doubt they will beat NZ though.

  • 323

Okay back for the final. Going to eat dinner now.

    Super,

Then this country has no future. If it does not have its people standing behind as one there is no future at all here.

Yes I support watching good rugby as well. BUT will never support another side against the Boks even if we play dour boring rugby. ABs/England that was a great game and enjoyed it very much. Never worried too much there who to support just enjoyed watching some great rugby. Actually I normally support the All Blacks when they are NOT playing against the Boks. Normally support them against any other team. Just would never ever support them against my team, that is just so very wrong. We do that then we totally lost here as a nation. Just small things like that divide us. We stand together like we done in 1995 and 2007 world cup we beat the world. Divided we fall Super.

Go look at Scotland they hardly ever win but they are so proud of their team. They will support them even if they losing by 20 or more points. Now that is how I want us to be. Support our teams here together as one. Sure we can rip them appart and the coach if we have too, that is our right to do that as that is our team. But never not support them, that is not right. I support the Proteas as well as Bafana Bafana as well. Even got myself a vuvuzela for the world cup in 2010. I got right behind our team. The way it should be.
