The HSBC Sevens World Series was in South Africa this weekend, with the Cell C Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens tournament, the last Sevens tournament on the circuit for 2012.
New Zealand took the spoils after beating the South African Blitzbokke 12 / 5 in the Semi-final and thumping France 47 / 12 in the Final.
It was a better weekend for the men from South Africa though, getting through the pool stages unbeaten, also winning the Quarter final against the USA, but then stumbling against New Zealand, by only 7 points. South Africa demolished Argentina in the 3rd Place play-off, beating them by 35 / 0.
Pools:
Pool A: South Africa, Samoa, France, and Australia
Pool B: New Zealand, Fiji, Scotland and England
Pool C: Kenya, Wales, Argentina and Spain
Pool D: Portugal, Canada, the United States and Zimbabwe

Well, this might be the last good rugby we see in 2012.
I sent a mail to the promotor of the Sevens Premier League, Willem Strauss, enquiring about the IPL-Style Tournament next week – 14, 15 & 16 December, wanting to know about whether it’s broadcast on TV, more info ect, ect.
Not even a courtecy reply from the man… I guess we won’t promote his tournament then either.
Could have been good, with 12 teams, 5 of which belong to the SA Franchises, couple of International sides and of course with Kaizer Chiefs (SA Soccer side) entering a strong-looking side as well.
@ grootblousmile:
Swak.
Considering what we’ve been hearing about the league, with Chiefs starting in the Rugby business this may just be broadcasted on the Soccer channel. 😉
Well, New Zealand beats Scotland, but only by 14 / 7. New Zealand looking strangely off kilter.
Fiji ahead 29 / 7 against England
3 @ grootblousmile:
Morning Gbs,
Jeez the stadium is just about empty! Thought it would be much fuller than that. Then again it is early and could fill up later. The New Zealand 7’s is the best, no matter what time, their stadium is just chock a block full, always buzzing with a party fill to it.
Fiji wins 29 / 19 against England
I don’t watch a lot of Sevens though make a point of watching ours and New Zealands. Always watch New Zealands because of the atmosphere they bring to their Sevens tourney.
Fiji just too good as they normally are in this format of the game.

Hello Oompie!
Should be more people later, but also one does not truly realise the impact of the economy on people from our personal extremely fortunate and comfortable arm chairs.
Handbriekie was telling me last night about the inordinate amount of companies closing earlier this year because there is so little business and it’s actually cheaper to close early than to have staff use electricity, coffee…. ect
We’re talking about Property Consultants, Auctioneering Houses, Small to Medium retail organisations. Hell SA’s BIGGEST Food & General Merchandise Retailer is down 40 percent on sales this quarter compared to the year before.
Kenya 21 / 17 Argentina
8 @ grootblousmile:
Some of us are really lucky in life, well we made our own luck to be honest. I have worked very hard for what I have today. But feel for many others right now, epescially this time of year. Times are hard for some boet and I really feel for people without.
That is the reason I also said at the Tank during our CC 2008 and 2010 it was sold out. Now we not filling our stadium and the reason I also thought was some people are struggling to make ends meet. Still thought we would see more at the 7s the whole day. It will fill up more later as it did last year.
10 @ Puma:
It also looks like the Recession won’t abate for a while yet… so those who rely on normal retail business are in serious kakkas.
But you are right, you and me and some others worked hard for what we have… and maybe more importantly steered our businesses in the direction where we do business with clients who have done exactly the same as what we’ve done.
It’s the common man in the street, the one who works for someone… he is the one who suffers, who stands the chance of retrenchment and worse.
Talking about being lucky… I think we all paid our penalties and school fees in life too… made some money, lost some, was done in by some… and rewarded in general.
@ grootblousmile:
Like me lol
