Australia and the South African Proteas did battle in the 3rd & final Test of the Series in Australia at the Western Australia Cricket Association ground (WACA), Perth.

The game took place mostly in the middle of the night for South Africans, so live updates was given in the mornings.

Some thought it strange when South Africa chose to bat first after winning the toss, considering the batting surface, but in hind sight it proved the perfect decision. After only posting a modest 225 by South Africa in the first innings, they took the Australian batsment apart with regularity in Australia’s first innings, reducing them to only 163 all out.

Then came the master class of the South African second innings, amassing 569 runs in double quick fashion and with an hour to go in Day 3, the Australians went in to bat. No wickets fell in that last hour of Day 3, but Day 4 was the clincher, with Australian wickets falling at regular intervals.

Michael Starc hung on, frustrating the South African bowlers and South African spectators alike, but in the end South Africa won the Test by 309 runs, more than a full Day early, and thus winning the Test Series 1 / 0 to retain their World No 1 Test ranking.

    146 @ Bullscot:
Sounds awesome, actually wouldn’t mind having that weather here. We into our humid months now, not the best weather for me, much prefer the Durbs winter weather we get.

  • 152

Looking at the SA score card for the 2nd Innings…. some ordinary scores and then the 3 outstanding batting efforts by Smith, Amla & AB respectively.

So, basically we must’nt let Warner, Clarke & Hussey get in properly, they could really punish us…. and there is still 2 full days left.

    Stumps Day 3

    Australia 40 / 0

    Aussie still trail by 592

144 @ Puma:Howzit Pum’s, not up there yet, spending a couple of days with my folks down in Dorset, before I make the great trek north tomorrow. Bloody cold here, but blue skies at the moment with sun trying its best to melt the ice!

  • 155

Would have been great to get a wicket or two tonight, just not to be. Do hope Morne’s ankle is okay otherwise it will be a long, long day for our bowlers tomorrow, especially that it is forecast there for 38 degrees. The heat a lone is energy sapping. Hope we pick up a early wickets tomorrow.

    154 @ Just For Kicks:
Okay sounds cold there. Will be colder in Scotland probably. Enjoy the time with your folks JFK.

Little bit of news on the other little round-ball-hard-moer game….
Martin Kaymer won the Nedbank Golf Chalange at Sin City by 2 shots (-8) over Charl Schwartzel (-6), with Louis Oosthuizen ending 4th (-2).
Kaymer wins USD 1.25 million… that’s about 11.25 million Rand….. not bad at all!

Flok and the rest of us have to work for a living…… eishhhh
(Yip, those 3 colours are the colours of the German Flag)

Ricky Ponting’s emotional last appearance at the Test match batting crease – fittingly afforded a guard of honour by Graeme Smith – could not obscure the fact that his departure signalled a dominant first session for South Africa. The visitors removed David Warner, Shane Watson and Ponting while keeping the batsmen pinned down with an exemplary display, leaving Australia 3 for 110 in pursuit of their theoretical target of 632.

Ponting moved off nought with a regal pull shot from the bowling of Morne Morkel, but exited when trying to force Robin Peterson off the back foot through cover, Jacques Kallis taking a smart catch at slip. He walked from the field briskly, but turned to wave his bat to the WACA ground crowd one last time, as the ground’s big screen was emblazoned with the words ‘Thanks Ricky’.

That brings to a end the wonderful career of one of the Worlds best cricketers.

I always hated you Ricky , just because you were so good and made me and SA suffer so many times. Must rather say i hated his success against us. He was just brilliant.

To end your career against your biggest rival is a fitting end. Being caught by arguably the Worlds best cricketer Jaques Kallis even more fitting.

Hahahaha…. and the new ball is due in less than 10 overs….

  • 176

More almal, lekker groot pakslae wat die Aussies hier kry. Net jammer Wallis kon nie wen Saterdag nie.

Om te dink, einde dag 4 van die 2de toets was die Aussies se bekke so groot, nou is hul tjoepstil.

    Approve

    176 @ bdb:
    So mak soos skaaplammetjies….. hahaha

  • 178

Duminy as hy weer reg is.
    AB bly paaltjiewagter.
Petersen op nr.2 is so-so, maar daar is nie beter tans nie.

  • 179

Komaan Proteas, maak nou klaar, hou op speel met die Aussies.

  • 180

    179 @ bdb:
