The Sharks squad for the new season is taking shape and what is encouraging is that it seems that the only players leaving the Sharks are Steven Sykes who will Join the Kings in Port Elizabeth as well as Piet Lindeque who will be furthering his studies and rugby career at the university of Pretoria although the latter not yet confirmed.
As the sharks look forward to their 2013 season the squad so far has a very settled look to it, although the announcement of the squad has a very settled look to it, the fact that all contracts are in order allows for great continuity.
With a settled squad the Sharks coaching staff can put better structures in place as for when rotation or injuries occur, the positive depth of the squad in each position of course will allow for momentum and continuity.
The Sharks have been very fortunate the last few year regarding loss of players nor an influx of new players which means the coaching staff have a very settled squad to work with and this being the case again as they prepare for the new season ahead.
Great news for the Sharks is that Springbok and Sharks loose forward Marcel Coetzee has agreed and signed a new contract until 2015 with the likes of Pat Lambie, Louis Ludik and Francois Steyn still contracted till end 2014.
The rest of the squad remain on contracts that extend for various lengths which means that the coaching staff will have very little disruption to their squad as they plan for the short and long term future.
Ryan Kankowski, will return to The Sharks on 15 February to be available for the start of the Vodacom Super Rugby tournament having then completed his short term(six months) contract in Japan.
The Sharks have also agreed to loan terms for the Lions pair of lock Franco van der Merwe and former Sharks crowd-favourite Butch James. Butch’s role will to provide depth at flyhalf as well as to mentor the younger players in the system, helping to bring through the likes of Fred Zeilinga, Robert du Preez (son of former Sharks and Springbok Robert) and Jean-Luc du Plessis (son of former Springbok Carel).
Franco van der Merwe, currently with the Boks squad ahead of the end of year tour, will join up with The Sharks later in the year, said he was excited and thrilled to be playing Super Rugby with The Sharks next year.
An excited Franco admitted he was really happy when he learnt he was going to play for the Sharks in their super rugby 2013 season. ” There is so much experience there, lots of Springboks in the team and I am looking forward to being part of a nice, family culture. I know a few of the guys there and I know there is a positive vibe in the team, a good team culture. I’m also looking forward to staying in Durban.
The big lock forward also had praise for coach John Pumtree and felt honoured to be a part of and playing with the team and coach of the year.
There is also plenty of exciting young talent available to the senior squad for the future. Amongst the players representing the SA Under 21 World Champions , Pieter-Steph du Toit and Paul Jordaan who have both played for The Sharks, there is further depth in Franco Marais, Allan Dell and Nicolaas van Dyk.
The squad here is 53 players of youth and senior players from which the final squad will be formed as the 2013 season nears.

302 @ Puma:I once listened to an interview by Joe Cockers brother – who was the head of a water board (not sure which one in UK) when I still lived there. A lovely down to earth person, totally the opposite of what you would expect him to be when you see Joe. He explained about Joes funny actions with his arms and hands, and why he does that – all drug related. Joe Cocker is probably in my top 5 favourite voices, so thanks for that one!

Yes, Cocker is one of my old time favourites.

If you like the blues you really need to check this guy out: He’s a South African guitar player called Dan Patlansky and is probably the closes thing to Stevie Ray Vaughn that I’ve ever seen.

307 @ Stormersboy:
Excellent!
@ Puma:
He tours around SA, he is one of only 2 fully fender sponsored guitarists in South Africa. If he ever comes around your way make an effort to go and see him. You won’t be disappointed. He does almost all blues, some original, some like above.
312 @ Stormersboy:
Will take note, thanks bud.
Here is another brilliant video with Clapton, Knopfler and Collins. Not sure if this has been put up yet or not. We have done many in the last few days. One of my favourites.

Bulls have even put up a poaching website that transform talented youngsters into brainwashed bumper cars
Hi Sharkie,
Thanks for the invitation to post something…I am really hopeless at doing stuff like that. I do have some choices that I think you might like though.
Yep…Have had a look at how to do it and I am baffled!!
I am thinking lets choose something a bit different that you might not have come across.
1. Calexico – Two Silver Trees
2. Joe Bonamassa – Sloe Gin
3. Kaiser Chiefs – I predict a Riot
Hope you enjoy them if they are new to you or not!
If you need some more choices post 1990 do let me know!!
I think you left the rest of your tapes on Noah’s ark. Those artist kids are almost dead as well
320 @ Blue Bird:
Howzit Carol,
Yeah I enjoy Bonamassa’s music as well. How about this one – Blues Deluxe

There you go BB, Kaizer Chiefs is a well known group, had not heard of the other 2 to be honest
Never thought I’d hear the name Joe Bonamassa on this site leat alone have a link on a thread.
Really impressed, Blue Bird and Puma!
Now if the two of you can only sort out your rugby loyalties…..
327 @ fender:
Hehehe
You are of course welcome to post some of the music you like too. It’s easy, just copy and paste the Youtube URL of the actual song, and the player will appear in your comment
Hi fender I didn’t know about this Joe Bonamassa guy so playing it now, he sounds really good. Talking about bluesy music went out for a bit on Saturday night to watch a group who were in town – Lewis Hamilton and the Boogie Brothers (no not the racing driver Hamilton 🙂 ), my brother-in-law was up visting and asked us along as he stays in the same town as Lewis. It was really good stuff just maybe a bit distorted at times on the bass but that was down to the acoustics in the pub. Lewis is lead guitarist and singer and it was hard to believe how young he is and playing the kind of music he was, is apparently only 20. Anyway you may want to look him up : http://www.lewishamiltonmusic.com
