The Springbok Team to take on Ireland in the 1st Test of the Springbok End Of Year Tour to the Northern Hemisphere, taking place on Saturday 10 November, was announced at about 13:40 SA Time on Wednesday 7 November 2012.

As suspected, Jaco Taute retains his spot at Outside Centre (No 13), Patrick Lambie gets a bite at the Flyhalf cherry, Zane Kirchner is retained at Fullback and Francois Hougaard slots in at Left wing (No 11) in place of the injured Bryan Habana.

On the bench Schalk Brits provides Hooker cover with CJ van der Linde and Pat Cilliers getting the nod for loosehead and tighthead props.

The backline replacements are Morné Steyn, Juan de Jongh and Lwazi Mvovo.

Heyneke Meyer has opted for a 5 / 3 split between forwards and backs, seeing as this tour is played under the new rules, stipulating that there MUST be a full front row on the bench and 8 in stead of the usual 7 replacements.

Springbok Team: 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 JP Pietersen, 13 Jaco Taute, 12 Jean de Villiers (Captain), 11 Francois Hougaard, 10 Patrick Lambie, 9 Ruan Pienaar, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Willem Alberts, 6 Francois Louw, 5 Juandré Kruger, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Jannie du Plessis, 2 Adriaan Strauss, 1 Tendai Mtawarira

Replacements: 16 Schalk Brits, 17 CJ van der Linde, 18 Pat Cilliers, 19 Flip van der Merwe, 20 Marcell Coetzee, 21 Morné Steyn, 22 Juan de Jongh, 23 Lwazi Mvovo.

Pretty much as expected bar one or 2 players, We have i think all said we would have dropped Zane and moved taute to 15, with JDJ to start at 13, Coach decided not so
only othe difference is Chili not making it, dont get me wrong i have no problem with Schalk, i just thought chili would get the not to keep the whole quota thing happy

    @ grootblousmile:

I see one thing HM has agreed with me is the MOrne on the bench option, I have no doubt the reason for this is to play an expansive match, but if things are not working out he can fall back on Morne, so not un expected at all

  • 5

Oh boy and now Voldy will be screaming racism because JDJ is not in the starting line up
    😆

  • 6

Taute at 13. Stupid stupid stupid.

Have no problem with the rest though.

    The run-on side as expected…

The replacements… well, THAT was a surprise… seeing Schalk Brits’ name… with Morné Steyn as replacement flyhalf also a surprise to me… and I think a trick is missed having Mvovo on the bench too.

  • 8

Overjoy Overjoy Overjoy LMFAO I had to go to Voldy and read some comments, old G10 is having a panty burst with the JDJ saga 😆

    @ grootblousmile:

Actually boet in the CC semi and Final Mvovo had good matches in poor conditions, HM would have taken note of that, like i repdicted MOrne would if not start be on the bench to keep the options open, I dont think HM would just throw things open as Rhule is not defensivly great, attacking brilliant though,

  • 10

    8 @ Sharks_forever:
I don’t know why you still bother to go there…. seriously!

  • 11

    9 @ Sharks_forever:
Rhule is miles better than Mvovo… who has really disappointed to the extreme.

Hell, Lionel Mapoe would have been a better bench option than Mvovo.

    @ grootblousmile:
I dont post, but i knew i would have a good laugh

Anyhows i closed the window, wish Pooms etc would get here to chat

  • 13

Just as I SAID who ever starts at flyhalf it is not Morne, then MORNE would be on the bench. I was RIGHT!

Just could not see Meyer leaving out Morne. All the journos had it wrong saying Meyer does not see Morne as a impact player so it will be Elton on the bench. Meyer was never going to leave Morne out, epecially with the wet conditions. Feel for Elton though, thought he would be on the bench and deserved to be on the bench.

Well done Pat, finally getting a start at flyhalf he so very much deserved during the RC. Go show em your class Pat!

    12 @ Sharks_forever:
Here now……………. Man I feel awesome for our star flyhalf FINALLY getting a start. Told you all Morne would be on the bench if not starting. Said if it was Elton or Lambie to start Morne would be on the bench. If Morne to start it will be Lambie on the bench. If Elton to start it will be Morne and Lambie on the bench as Lambie covers a few positions.

    7 @ grootblousmile:
NO surprise for me to see Morne there. I called it. Said it on the ‘Pick your Bok Team” thread. Not surprised AT all to see Brits on the bench. He knows the conditions well, so it was the right call. So not one surprise for me. Would have had heart failure though if Morne was starting at fh………….bwaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

    @ Puma:

Hiyas Pooms, I feel for Elton too but i can seriously understand HM reasoning for having MOrne on the benc, I too predicted it and gave my reason for it.

In saying that and understanding it i do not fully agree with it however as i feel we could have used Ruan as the 10 backup and have had another loose forward on the bench in Arno Botha, anyhows time will tell come Saturday if HM is right.

  • 17

    14 @ Puma:
So, when you and Kickers, amongst others got your knickers in a knot when Heyneke Meyer announced the initial Springbok Squad to tour…. well, I guess you owe the man an apology regarding Lambie then…..

  • 18

I am happy to see Mvovo getting another chance. Was dropped unfairly after one mistake. He came back and played some good rugby in the Currie Cup. So pleased he has another chance, even if it is on the bench.

  • 19

Against Scotland, expect Elton Jantjies to start at flyhalf!

  • 20

    17 @ grootblousmile:
NO WAY no appology from me, unless he gives Lambie more than one chance to prove himself. He has to be fair here. WE all know Meyer only selected Lambie due to pressure and more pressure fromt the press and HE could not leave him out after his top class performance in the CC. Which every journo wrote about, every site your read they were calling for Lambie. IT was pressure to play him nothing coming from his part, I just don’t trust Meyer. He has to earn that trust back from supporters that did trust him from the start. Give this young man a chance now, that means don’t drop him for ONE mistake, give him a chance like he has done with Goosen after he missed kicks and Jaco that was dreadful in both games played but still given a chance. Lambie should start in all 3 games this tour. Now that is making up for letting him rot on the bench in RC.

    @ grootblousmile:

Very possible, although it would depend on how succesful we are this weekend i think.

    16 @ Sharks_forever:

Is Vlokkie dalk oppad ?

    20 @ Puma:
Well, you guys flipped your lid needlessly regarding Lambie, that’s for sure.

A biger man knows when he was wrong…. think about it.

  • 26

    24 @ bdb:
Ja, ‘n goeie beginspan… ek sou Juan de Jongh op No 13 verkies het, Taute op heelagter…. maar nouja, ek is heel gelukkig oor die beginspan.

  • 27

    24 @ bdb:
Genade, hoe oud is Derick Liefling Hougaard nou?

Laat ek sommer self antwoord… hy is 29, word 30 op 4 Januarie 2013

  • 28

    @ grootblousmile:

Hey i didnt flip any lid 😆

this lid is still on firmly hehe

  • 29

    @ grootblousmile:

    40 😆

  • 30

I think 95% of supporters would have preferred JDJ at 13 and Taute at 15, but hey the players didnt select themselves, I am sure they will give their best
