PUMA and the IRFU have launched the new Ireland alternate jersey which will be worn for the first time in the GUINNESS Series opener against South Africa at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday week (November 10).

Developed in consultation with Irish international players and management, the striking black and green alternate jersey marks a new departure from the traditional white and green alternate strip and will be the first non-white alternate jersey to be worn by the Irish rugby team in a competitive match.
The new IRFU alternate jersey comprises of a high tech nylon/lycra four way stretch body material. The fabric is a two layer bonded knit with a breathable membrane and a moisture management finish, enabling the wearer to stay cool and dry whilst performing at their optimum.
The unique nature of the four way stretch material also allows the athlete to perform with unhindered movement.
Roger Harrision, Marketing Director of PUMA UK & Ireland, commented: “We’re delighted with the new alternate Ireland jersey as it marks a new departure from the traditional white and green and the feedback from players and coaches through the production process has been hugly positive.
“The funtionality and comfort for players is always our top priority but it has to look great too and we think the black and green design has a stand out quality. We’re looking forward to seeing it against the Springboks at the Aviva.”
Padraig Power, Commercial & Marketing Director of the IRFU, said: “With South Africa coming to town, the launch of a new Ireland alternate Jersey gives us an opportunity to bring some variety to how we present the Irish rugby brand.
“We think the new green and black jersey looks fantastic. The style is contemporary and innovative and the team really love the look.
“Our feedback from supporters has been very positive and we expect it to look really strong on the pitch. We think our supporters will be delighted with it and they will wear it with pride.”
Don’t mind if they wear Black… as long as they don’t play like the Blacks…
Someone should tell them that the All Blacks do not play that well or get special powers from Black Jerseys. I will refer them to England who also tried it.
1 @ grootblousmile:
hahahaha. Hope they don’t play like them either.
Don’t care what colour jersey the opposition wear, as long as it don’t clash with our own.
Wait till the field is muddy
Freddie Burns and Billy Twelvetrees, both Gloucester players, have been called up to England squad, Burns replaces Jordan Turner-Hall who has an inflamed knee and Twelvetrees (inside centre) is in for Jonathan Joseph who has an ankle injury. Have heard lots of good things about flyhalf Burns so much so that he could probably have considered himself unlucky not to have been in the squad in first place, not yet seen him play though. Burns is the leading points scorer in Aviva Premiership so far this season and is only 22. It seems that England are quite well covered at flyhalf for the future with Toby Flood and Owen Farrell already there while Flood’s understudy at Leicester George Ford is also meant to be very talented even if he didn’t have a good day yesterday against Northampton and missed 5 out of his 9 kicks to posts, he is only 19 and has already done well last season in semi-final and final for Leicester.
SAD news, RIP Nico
6 @ superBul:
Hello super, this is really sad news to lose such a young man in this way. Saw a photo of Nico online without the story just some people’s comments expressing their condolensces on Sunday morning so was waiting to see the news – which followed later in form of brief announcement on Blue Bulls site. It will be heartbreaking for all those who were close to Nico and must be especially tough for his parents to lose a child at any time let alone in such a fashion, just wish all his loved ones much strength to get through things.
