Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth has been cited for allegedly making contact with a the eye of a Scotland player in the Test match played at Murrayfield on Saturday.
rugbyweek
Following this weekend’s round of Autumn International matches, two players have been cited by independent IRB Citing Commissioners.
The South African lock forward Etzebeth, was cited by Alan Mansell of England for contact with the eye(s) or eye area under Law 10.4 (m) on Scotland No 10, Greig Laidlaw, after 14 minutes of the second half of the match at Murrayfield on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Juan Figallo, Argentina’s prop forward, was cited by Mike Rafter of England for striking with the head (Law 10.4 (a)) on French Captain Pascal Pape at the end of the first half of the match in Lille on Saturday.
Under IRB Regulation 17, hearings for both players will be held on Tuesday (Etzebeth) and Wednesday (Figallo) this week before independent IRB-appointed Judicial Officers.
This has been on a few websites but interesting no mention of this on Scottish Rugby Union or on the various Scottish newspaper and TV sites have trawled through. The main focus is on the retirement of Allan Jacobsen and various opinions from Scotland coach and players on how the game went.
Fresh news from Scotland seen it half an hour ago and now its just appeared on SRU site: “Uncapped, Inverness-born stand-off Tom Heathcote has tonight joined the Scotland squad in Aberdeen in preparation for Saturday’s EMC Test against Tonga.
Heathcote, 20, who has already featured in the Heineken Cup for Bath Rugby, has previously played age-grade for England but is “delighted” to accept the call-up from the land of his birth.” – so the hunt for a top quality flyhalf continues lets just hope they’ve done their research properly and we don’t end up in the situation of the Steven Shingler fiasco again.
@ bdb:
Do we know what time the Kangeroo Court sits?
125 @ Loosehead:
Don’t know Loosehead as I said earlier been difficult to find news on the Scottish websites about this over here, so either its a storm in a tea cup that they not fussed about it, or maybe its a case of outta sight outta mind with Boks game over and focus now on Tonga, it was on the bbc (national) website under Scottish rugby I guess because it happened in the game against Scotland.
#125 @ Loosehead
I had a good look at the footage and although it doesn’t look as if he gouged his fingers were around the eye area for a brief moment. If they were looking to ban him then they may have just enough to do it.
It depends on whether they go in with an unbiased point of view or not.
@ Stormersboy:
Well then they might as well not even have a hearing, as this is no doubt pre planned, this is also why this hearing was called only just within the time lines.
Dont expect anything less that 8 weeks out, in this case though i would venture to suggest SARU for the first time in their history show some spine and take this to court, In doing this it could go to show what we as Saffa’s have been suspecting for some time.
@ Sharks_forever:
Yes, makes me sick to my stomach.
128 @ Stormersboy:
I had a good look as well. It looks worse than it is. He never had his fingers in the Scots eye. What one would expect is the Scottish Player to come out and clear this up, defend Etzebeth by telling them he had not been eye gouged. That would be the most honourable thing to do, as he knows well he was not eye gouged. Like I said here yesterday a player would have complained if that happened. This is all stirring by the English Citing Officer. I have no doubt Eben will get off off and it is a damn shame that someone tries to run his name down like this. This English bloke had better have the decency to come out and apologise to the youngster in public.
129 @ Sharks_forever:
Just reading the English papers. The minimum ban is 12 weeks going up to 3 years. This now is crazy as he never eye gouged, if found guilty we must go in with full force and clear Eben. The right thing is the Scottish Player has to come out and tell these palookas he was not eye gouged. That would settle in a second.
Also reading on Super Sport, that CJ seems to have a calve injury. So that would settle Meyer’s mind not to select him. Even if he was not injured it has to be Cilliers for the England game to cover Jannie. Another worring factor is that Mvovo went down in training yesterday afternoon with his leg strapped. So waiting to see how he is today. JPP is a massive lose on the wing, as their 11 wing is very, very good. We really needed JPP for this game. My feeling if Mvovo is not ready Meyer will play Taute there. Not that his defence is brilliant but he can kick, which Meyer wants as the reason he has not looked at Rhule yet, wants him too to improve his kicking for pete sakes. He is big and strong and if dry would suit the conditions surely?
lose = loss

@ Stormersboy:
@128
I also just watched that footage in slow-mo a number of times.
There is no ‘intent’ (or “mens rea” as GBS and the prokurowers would call it) on Ebens’s part, none whatsoever.
I hope they have a lawyer at that kangaroo court representing Eben…..or phone Johan Rupert to get one of of his London based legal eagles over there to sort those Poms out, this is absolute nonsense bru.
I feel sorry for Eben and his folks down in the Cape.
@ Pietman:
Dis belaglik Piet,
Dit you eventually get my skype addy??
137 @ Sharks_forever:
Flok, you guys are absolutely obsessed with the type of play the Bulls do… and totally in awe of Sharks type of play, notwithstanding that with by far the strongest group of players in the whole of Super Rugby, it has yielded buggerall, fokoli, zero!
@ Sharks_forever:
Not yet, we will sort it out tonite bru.
I have to dash, just had a quick lunch break.
Sien jou later.
@ grootblousmile:
No different to the commentry we get day in and day out about the Sharks and their players. Live with it
142 @ Sharks_forever:
OK… game on!
@ Pietman:

@ grootblousmile:
@ grootblousmile:
@ Pietman:
exacaterlllllly Pieta 😆 because what i said to Bidi was truely with best intentions, the Bulls do have a very good sqaud for next year. Great backline in total, Maybe only a FB that wont really compliment the running game, but who knows.
Oh Shit they actually do have a good running rugby FB in Kriel ex MAritzburg college FB and SA schools.
Only lucky thing is he is still to young, only 18
Actually I wonder if Hougaard would not make a very good 15??
146 @ Pietman:
