  Will pose some thought that for the Coach. If Kallis can still bat I would still select him. Then we need another all rounder. Perth normally great for fast bowlers, though don’t think we must leave out a spin bowler either. So they need to think abou it, just don’t think it will be Tahir he was not great in this test.

  Just reading on Super Sport, see that Meyer wants to continue with Jean as captain next year. I feel if he does Jean should move over to outside centre like he done at the start of the Bok tests against England. I know many have said he is not a outside centre, but I feel it was there that he played his best against England in the first two tests. With Fransie at 12 and if he still selects Lambie at fh that channel will be like a brick wall to come through. The defence with the three of them would be like a rock.

  Just that the young and up coming outside centres will have to take a back seat. Then if Jean is growing as a captain I understand that. Like when we had John, you simply can’t go to war without a leader. So have to see how Jean handles the S15. Stormers will have to manage him well. They have plenty superb youngsters coming through so expect Jean to have enough rest during that tourney.

  Good morning Peeps,

  what a stunning display of guts by the boys/.

  Now as for the next match?? They will have to have a deep hard look at playing Kallis?? we must remember him having an injury means you cannot use a runner, It also means who ever runs with him will have to halt on taking quick singles.

  If he does break down during the match we will sit with the same problem as in the past 2 tests of having to play with a man down, or even more then one.

  I am not saying just don’t play him, but they really have to weigh up the if’s and buts.

  Also we must remember, Vernon injured, Kallis injured, Steyn had been pulling up with a hammy problem in this test, so our attack really a problem, so I am not sure we should look to playing a spinner in Perth, With out bowling in dire straights, I reckon we should beef up the batting

  I guess it depends on whether Vernon is fit again. If he is then he must obviously play.

  I’d be inclined to look at Pieterson as an option for a spinner all rounder. It’s a difficult decision though. i would drop Imraan and Rudolph, that’s for sure.

  Hope Vernon is okay, if he and Kallis can’t play that would be a massive loss. Not sure where Kallis injury is thought it was his hand, then have not really being taking notice of the injury list in the cricket.

  Elgar probably the one to select for Perth being inform and can bowl.

  Boet? Perth is a fast bowlers paradise. play Elgar as he is a brilliant batsmen and a very good spinner, you only need a spinner to do a holding job, you might even find the Aussies wont play Lyon,

  Faf is also a leg spinner that to my mind should have been used more in the past test.

  We must play atleast 4 seamers so Steyn, Morkel, Vernon/Ryan, Rory

  If we play this team we bat strong till 7 and Vernon or Ryan Maclaren the all rounder at 8

  Then Steyn. Morkel and Rory can atleast hold a bat,

  Incase Kallis cant play then bring back Jacques Rudolph

  My gut feel is they did not bowl him much as it was his first test and the pressure, Also he is mostly used at the Titans to bowl in the one dayer’s and not the 4 day games.

  I reckon he is from what I have seen way good enough to dop a holding Job, Elgar is a good Off spinner and gets quite a bit of turn, he would have done well on the pitch this past match.

  Perth though is about the Speedsters, so we must hope we are all fit and ready, the team I posted would have been gigantic had Kallis been able to bowl, meaning 5 Quickies and 2 spinners now it will be 4 and 2

  Wow this was certainly a very pleasant surprise to wake up to this morning, well done Proteas, must have shown a lot of guts and patience to bat through the day, after a disapointing time in England this is a very welcome boost from Faf du Plessis and hopefully will boost his test career loads from here on, we need batsmen to take over from Kallis and also contribute on the odd occasion when Amla Smith and de Villiers go cheaply.

  South Africa survived a late bowling barrage to salvage a draw in a dramatic conclusion to the second Test against Australia at Adelaide Oval on Monday.

  The tourists lost only four wickets on the final day to finish the match on 8-248, trailing the hosts by 182 runs.

  They owed the draw to debutant and man-of-the match Faf du Plessis (110 not out) who survived two reversed dismissals in a gruelling seven hour stay at the crease.

  The Proteas were made to work for the draw as stumps loomed with Peter Siddle (4-54) setting up a scintillating finish after the dismissals of tail-enders Dale Steyn and Rory Kleinveldt for a duck and three respectively.

  Australia could sense victory following Siddle’s fireworks but du Plessis and Morne Morkel (eight not out) denied the home side a chance to lead the series 1-0.

  The hosts had declared and set the Proteas a victory target of 430 on Sunday following a first-innings total of 550 and second-innings effort of 8-267.

  Du Plessis’ marathon 68-over partnership with AB de Villiers (33) blunted Australia’s bowling attack before the former combined for a 99-run stand with Jacques Kallis (46) who batted bravely with a hamstring injury.

  After resuming the day at 4-77, the visitors showed little intent to get the scoreboard ticking.

  Australia had a chance to dismiss du Plessis on 15 when he popped a delivery just short of Ed Cowan, but it was all they could squeeze out of the visitors as several maidens followed.

  Frustrated with the Proteas’ ultra-defensive approach, Michael Clarke (0-34) tried to find a breakthrough and almost did so with two dismissals that required reviews.

  Du Plessis looked plumb in front after padding up and offering no shot to Clarke, but replays showed the ball had pitched outside leg.

  The Test rookie continued the grind before he was given out once more after being trapped in his crease by Clarke.

  But to Australia’s dismay, the ball did not strike du Plessis’ boot or pad.

  Du Plessis landed in hot water two more times following a stirring spell from Nathan Lyon (3-49), before he reached his second 50 of the Test directly after lunch with a boundary wide of gully.

  Australia responded and had hopes of cleaning up South Africa’s lower-order when de Villiers’ laborious knock – the longest innings in Test history in terms of deliveries faced without a boundary – ended with Siddle’s breakthrough, but the Proteas battened down the hatches.

  Short of answers, Clarke threw Dave Warner (0-29) and Rob Quiney (0-4) into the action, but the experiment failed as the Proteas’ run-rate increased.

  Du Plessis hustled to his hundred after tea as Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus (1-65) combined to shackle the South African batsman on 98 for a number of balls.

  Siddle was particularly hostile as he stared down du Plessis after rocketing in a yorker that caused the right-hander to fall just as he got his bat down in time to block the ball.

  Then the Victorian found the edge with a delivery that fell short of second slip.

  Du Plessis eventually reached his century after an exhausting 310 balls, only for Kallis to edge Lyon straight to short leg, shy of a 56th Test half-century.

  Siddle ensured there was plenty of late drama when he sent Steyn packing after he pushed at a full toss down low to the diving Quiney, before rattling Kleinveldt’s stumps with a ripping in-swinging yorker.

  We must not forget, our bowling attack was seriously effected by injuries in the past test.

  In the first innings of Australia Steyn pulled up with a Hamstring strain, Kallis as we know took 2 wickets in his first 3 overs, in the 4th over he had to leave the field with a worse hamstring problem that Steyn.

  Vernon Philander could not even start the match due to back spasms before the match even started, and of course Imraan was in the poorest form thinkable.

  This means out of 5 bowlers we only had 3 fully fit Morne, Rory(1st test) and Imraan.

  In the final test Aussie is loading their team with fast bowlers and I have no doubt they will not even play a spinner in Perth.
