News from Cape Town is that Tendai “Beast” Mtawarita is recovering from a successful minor medical procedure to correct an intermittent irregular heart rhythm he experienced last weekend.
The Beast returned from Ireland last Monday as a precautionary measure due to a recurrence of heart palpitations he had suffered from before, The Springbok prop had an irregular heart rhythm, according to Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts. He underwent a minor procedure in Cape Town on Wednesday to correct this and was released from hospital on Friday.
“I am well, so there is really no need to worry,” said Mtawarira. “The procedure went well. It’s only a minor procedure and sometimes it needs to be done more than once to clear the palpitations. This is something that has happened to me before and that can be treated. Also, it’s not career-threatening. “Sometimes I get quite excited before a game and that is probably what triggered it. I am at peace with everything because I know God has a great plan for my life. I have prayed about it with my family and trust the Lord for a full recovery.
“To all my fans, the medical staff that helped and everyone who passed on good wishes – thank you for the support and love.”
Mtawarira will not grant further interviews and asked that his and his family’s privacy be respected at this time. Beast was also happy in the sense that he would be able spend a little more time with his little girl.
Get well big fella, glad things went well, enjoy the time with your family mate.
All the best Beast, get better and looking forward to seeing you in Super Rugby next year.
